Thoughts on sending 4s to Wesleyan?
And as one data point, my older kid at Midd included 4s mixed in with mostly 5s on the app |
In the op's case I would have sent the 4s if the kid had taken the AP course. I think in that case it's totally reasonable and they're good scores. But since the kid self-studied and didn't take the AP courses, nobody is expecting scores, and I'd only send "extras" that are clearly a net positive. |
I would only send fours if they were mixed with and outnumbered by 5s. |
Since you didn’t take the classes, they would not expect the scores and thus won’t know if they are missing. Don’t send. |
to be fair, she said that up front. I think a 1530 is v strong for Midd and I wouldnt confuse things by sending 4s |
Dd admitted RD to middlebury with a 1530, half 4s and half 5s.
|
I think a 1530 is more impressive than the APs. Maybe if the tests were unusual - like 4 languages. But otherwise, it just muddies the waters. |
This is a good score (75th pct) for Middlebury. They do not give credit for AP courses; do they even accept self studied APs for placement? I see no good reason to submit the scores. |
This. It detracts and doesn’t add. |
Clearly people are split, but I’m in the yes category. They know you took the test, right? So if you don’t provide a score they will know it’s a 4 or 3 or 2. I’d rather them know it’s a 4 than wonder. People get into top schools all the time with 4s and 5s. |
How would they know? That’s nonsensical. OP wrote, “from private school with no AP courses so these were all self-studied. easy enough to omit, lots of other better testing.” |
This thread is crazy. 4s and 5s are great; 4 is even more impressive if kid self-studied! |
I would send to plenty of places but not midd if you already have a 1530 |
