I went to my first big concert around 17. The man behind us spilled a beer that ran onto the floor under our seats.

I'm 5'2. I don't enjoy standing concerts because I'm often in someone's armpit or can't see well.

My general impression is that a lot of people are buzzed or high at concerts.

I'd wait until your kid is older. Is your DH going? Who turned this kid on to a guy who was in a humor group called "I smell panties"?

What does this bizarre stream of consciousness rambling have to do with Tyler the Creator?

You’re not very bright are you.

But your off-topic babbling about a man spilling beer at a concert is?

You're being rude and not very insightful. And not even arguing with the person who wrote the "stream of consciousness babbling". That's me, not the person you just responded to.

The point is, stupid and bad stuff happens at concerts. Mom OP can read between the lines. I originally wasn't going to get into any value judgments about "Tyler the Creator". So I left my remarks impressionistic. I wouldn't let my 12 year old go to a rap concert, even with dad. Paying for a concert basically means you're endorsing the values and scene, and you're funding it with a big amount of cash instead of listening to it for free. I don't care about cursing and the misogyny 100% comes with the genre and has to be taken or left. I do let my kids listen to rap radio FOR FREE in the car (Eminem, Nelly, TI, Ludacris, Drake). I appreciate the lyrical brilliance of many of the biggest hits, and the intensity of the music. But a lot of it is pretty trashy stuff, no matter how clever. Part of the reason I enjoy it is that it's totally transgressive. This is a typical dilemma with pop music that's been happening since the 1940s.

I bet the Tyler fans are going to be a bit too mature for a 12 year old to be around. This isn't really about censorship in the absolute sense. It's about not exposing your 12 year old to idiot mature fans behaving like idiot adults, a concert experience that possibly might be subpar for a short, young person, and possibly hearing randomly offensive remarks offered by the main artist. I also still don't like buzzed and high strangers orbiting around me to this day. And my experiences with that were all had at whitebread rock concerts. So it's not anti-rap prejudice.

OP can google to find some clips of Tyler live to get a sense of what will be happening live. There are plenty.

Also, every kid needs to understand about hearing safety before they go heavy into Airpods, headphones, and live concerts. Have a plan and appropriate strategies to preserve hearing.

Girl you have noooo idea what youre talking about and just make yourself look foolish. Tyler Creator has rape and death threats throughout his early work... so far beyond the usual misogyny you find in mainstream rap. Why dont people take a tiny amount of time to google before rambling on about something they have no clue about?

PP. You can think whatever you want. I'm trying to avoid debating the merits of Tyler himself. Because I have no interest in his work and don't need to get educated about it. There is no societal consensus on "how much ick" is so much that an artist needs to be cancelled. That is for OP to decide. But based on the concert environment alone, I would not send a 12 year old. That's my point. You can feel free to give your own opinion on how unsavory the artist is. I don't think this decision even needs to be made on the basis of the content of his work.

The more you say NO the more your kids will want it .. Hope they don’t sneek out to this concert.

BTW I grew up in the strictest home ever

Can’t do this
Can’t wear that
Can’t listen to that
Girls can’t do this
That’s only for this race

The worst.

I have seen him in concert because he was at a music festival I attended. He swears a lot. So I would listen to his music beforehand to see if you’re comfortable with allowing her to go.

Took my then 15 year old daughter to see him at Capital One in the spring. It was a great show. A lot of teens in groups with parents or just on their own. I was pleasantly surprised that noon around us was vaping weed or being obnoxious. We had great seats just above the floor and so could see everything. Go, let your kid have the core memory. I personally think Chromakopia is a great project & a theme through the album is focused on the Mom figure. My kid had a blast, so did I.

His most recent album was my favorite album of last year. My DC is a huge fan. In the last two years we’ve seen Tyler three or four times.

I went to my first concert at 11.

There are some weirdos on this board.

OP: If she wants to go and you have the funds, go. The production on this tour is phenomenal. Live music is important especially these days when kids just want to sit and stare at their phones and don’t have the attention span to watch a full live concert (or even a movie in a theater). Important to support her wanting to support the arts. Ignore the subjective music opinions people here - parents aren’t his target demographic.

My son went at 14 and he and my
DH both had a great time. The
Kid already listens to Tyler so I’m not sure the lyrics are an issue. That ship has sailed.

There are not many kids at his concerts. Not the right age to let them go experience a garbage shock influencer concert.

I'd change the subject or deflect. Maybe 14 at the youngest.

This is simply not true. My teen saw friends at the show, some she knew well and others she just knew as an acquaintance. I found the audience to skew younger & everyone around us was under 20 -- except the parents.

Also: He is not a garbage shock influencer.

If you haven’t seen this tour then you have no idea what you’re talking about. Which you haven’t because there is no garbage shock influencer nonsense happening. AND there were a ton of kids.

You’re really stuck on the shenanigans he got up to when they were all in Odd Future. When they were teenagers…
