I’m starting to think you’re maybe one person who perhaps got a bad IMPACT score and now just spreads hate for central. |
This is why spring break should not be based on Easter. If people want DC to align with other districts it's THOSE districts who should CHANGE spring break not DC. Deciding spring break by a holiday that can move by over a month is ABSURD! All these districts should choose April 5-9 or April 12-16, 2027 as their spring break. |
I voted for Emancipation Day when the survey was out so I did ask them to change it. As for contacting someone I'd. go with Ask the Chancellor Lewis Ferebee. His link is on the left of the page.

Why is it so hard for CO folk to understand that many people find CO problematic? |
I’ll tell you the real reason…..it’s because DCPS wants it to be in March! If they wanted it to be in April, they would have scheduled it in April! Since entitled people in Capitol Hill and Ward 3 love to complain, lets just cancel spring break altogether! |
Tell me the world revolves around you without telling me. |
You know what else is absurd now that I think about it? Aligning a school year calendar to the harvest. |
Sorry, I just realized this post makes it sound like I am the PP, I am not. |
I’m the OP and I live in Ward 4 and I’m black, but go off sis. DCPS needs to tie spring break to emancipation day and leave it alone. |
It shouldn't revolve around when Easter is. Having spring break in MARCH when the year ends in mid to late June is ridiculous! Students and teachers alike will be burned out in late May and June! |
Central Office and the union wanted to tie it to Easter because that's what MoCo, PG, and Arlington schools do. Plus parochial schools always tie it to Easter.
Lots of teachers, admins, SpecEd and others DCPS employees complaining that they had to find childcare when their own kids had off for Easter week but the parent (usually a woman) had to report to work to DCPS. It really does a number on single parent households. If you had completed the DCPS survey about the calendar, they even mentioned this as a "pro" for tying spring break to Easter. At that point, I knew the fix was in. I advocated strongly for bringing back the week off in February and keeping spring break aligned with Emancipation Day. |
Lol only the ones with easy Impacts gets evaluated by central. They don’t control teacher’s scores, admin at the school do. |
Because the timing of Easter and Passover change every year. |
- I did the survey and picked April so don't blame me for this one. - How did DCPS develop the calendars for the 2023-2026 school years? We'd like to thank the more than 1,300 members of our community who shared their feedback. This feedback was crucial in finalizing these documents. For example: Community members confirmed their preference for a three-day Thanksgiving break, a spring break aligned with the District of Columbia Emancipation Day holiday, and midterm parent-teacher conferences. They also cited finishing the school year before the last week of June as a top priority. - How did DCPS create the SY 26-29 Calendars? We want to thank the over 1,800 members of our community who shared feedback in the Fall 2024 survey. This feedback was critical in the finalization of these calendars. For example: Community members shared a clear preference for aligning DCPS’ Spring Break with the anticipated Spring Breaks in neighboring Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. This change is now reflected in the calendars. What caused this change? BTW 28-29 is such a mess but it is so far away and will hopefully be tweaked. August 21 start which is August 14 for teachers and August 9 yes NINE for new teachers. Yuck! |
This is why NOT to have PUBLIC school spring break based on Easter or Passover. If you want it based on Passover go to a Jewish school. If you want it based on Easter go to a Christian school. It makes sense in those schools to tie it to those holidays not in PUBLIC schools! |
