Thank you for all the interesting comments. One thing that strikes me reading everyone’s thoughts is that the cut of the shirt of dress matters a lot because I was not thinking of the type in the link or descriptions.

I am the pear above who said shirt dresses with inset waists and an aline or fuller skirt are my favorite style of dress. I actually own this dress in another color. It is flattering because I have a smaller waist and chest. Some think of shirt dresses as basically a longer version of a man's shirt that may be worn belted or unbelted. This isn't a style that works for me because my hips are too wide. A size that would fit them would be way too big in the shoulders. It is a style that could work for women who have waists that are wider relative to their hips. |

| 5-5 and 128. I went to Catholic High School in the 70s and some of the pastel colored ones look too much like our summer uniforms to me. Also, dresses like the JCrew one upthread with a gathered skirt have just too much fabric for my frame. I do best with belted straight up and down ones like they have at JMac. |

T shirt dresses do not work on me (I have a small waist but smallish boobs and bigger butt/thighs). A tshirt dress on me is droopy on top and tight on my hips. I actually am going to differ with most of the opinions and say I see t-shirt dresses looking great on women with BIG boobs and a firm but curvy body. I think the bust making the t-shirt dress not cling to the stomach is key. Apple or upside-down triangle is what I'm saying.
Of course, everything looks good on tall and skinny. |
