Colleges with record incoming class sizes for fall 2025

Michigan!
They over enrolled off the waitlist. it's now the largest freshman class ever. My son has two friends who don't have housing--the weekly update is "we don't know it yet-keep checking back."

Wasn't 2007 a baby boom year for birth rates? Hence the trickle down of record - large graduating classes and now incoming freshmen?...and flood the job market in the next few years (competing with AI no less).

I thought I read somewhere that 2007 exceeded the post WWII baby boom.

This makes me sick. People don’t deserve overcrowded universities

Don't catastrophize.

yikes

I wonder if this was a factor in Michigan’s decision to offer ED next admission cycle.

Don't catastrophize.

I’m not. I’m clearly stating my opposition to a growing problem.

I went to Pitt. As long as there would be a nighttime shuttle/safe ride (and I believe there is), the hotel location referenced is competitive/acceptable. It's at the edge of the business and residential neighborhood where many students live. 20 minutes walk would be normal for apartment-dwelling kids in Oakland. I think it's better than living in a study lounge with 3 other roommates. Which I did for two months long ago. We used to go to a movie theater near there regularly. It's not a pretty block but the Hampton room is likely bigger than a dorm and will have private bath.

2002-2008.

9-11 through the recession was the baby boom.

It starts to dropp off after class of 2026 graduates.

There are so many empty universities that are closing.

We can't help it that everyone wants the fun SEC type schools and the big name universities, and few want to attend the small liberal arts colleges

I'm pretty sure that isn't true with most top SLACs still far more selective than virtually all SEC schools

Regardless, Michigan will have significantly more dorm space in 2026-2027 than it has now.
