$37k is the out-of-state cost. $24k is the in state cost. Wm is $42k in state. |
I did have to laugh at them sending us a gold trimmed folder in the mail last spring…all to say that our Monroe scholar got zero dollars. We didn’t expect any money. But why send a fancy folder to tell us about our package…of loans? |
Why the hate on CNU? Some of us can only afford that. |
Publics like WM, UNC, UVA, UCB etc do not need merit enticements to yield classes. 150k earnings is roughly 38k SAI. All these schools like WM take your SAI, tack on 10k or so of loans/workstudy before "need" is even assessed. So sounds about right, you did not qualify for need aid. |
Is the Monroe scholar the honors college? I always assumed it was a scholarship based on the name. |
I think this year they gave money to some Monroe Scholars (Maybe OOS students). It is a wonderful program with research opportunities and funds for that. Not really an honors college as far as I know. No scholarship money last year. I’m not an expert since my kid went elsewhere in state. That folder though…they could save a bunch on that! |
Yes, Monroe scholars are equivalent to most "honors" designation at other schools. This year WM did offer 10k merit to oos Monroes. Likely this was done to counter pushing 75k oos coa. Would be interesting to know if this help on oos yields. |
That's not stingy. If you had saved since birth, it would have helped. Or, choose a cheaper school. No one owes you anything. |
That is definitely the in state cost https://cnu.edu/financialaid/cost/ |
Price drives perception, if W&M had Nova level prices then W&M would have Nova level prestige.

My god, how hard is this. WM tuition is $26500 and total direct cost is $43.057 CNU tuition is $17,200 and total direct cost is $30,400 Both in state and both without, books, transportation and other fluff from cost estimates. |
Why do you think William and Mary is comparable to Mary Washington in terms of experience? They seem to attract completely different graduates. Mary Washington is even a tier lower than JMU and CNU. |
If true, this is a change from the days when it was MWC and more highly regarded than JMU. CNU in those days was a commuter school just a step above a community college. |
+1 We found that quite ridiculous too. |
