You should be fine going to and coming back from Canada.
I have a naturalized citizen coworker who is from China who is no longer traveling for the company because she faced hassles coming back from the UK to the US a few weeks ago. She has GE as well. This was the second time she faced hassles in returning to the US, too. The first time was when she was returning from Brazil. She just traveled to Canada to see family who wouldn't (couldn't?) enter the US and she faced zero problems at the border. |
And his passport is close to within six months of expiry. |
Which is not relevant because that's not the rule for this border crossing. Different countries have different rules related to passport validity- the "6 months rule" isn't an actual rule for all countries, but more like the most restrictive requirement for any country, so a good guide if you don't know specifics. In this case all you need is a valid passport as a US citizen to enter Canada. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/entry-requirements-country.html#us-citizens https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Canada.html |
Sorry, OP, I hate the administration as much as the next guy, but you are being a drama queen. If you have a US passport, you are an American citizen and that settles it. But you are derelict in not renewing it. You are cutting it close on that one. |
Why? It has 7 months of validity and Canada only requires (for US citizens) a passport that is valid on the date of entry. I don't understand why multiple people keep saying this. |
You must have MAGAt tattooed on your forehead because anyone with half a brain knows non-white non-citizens are facing heightened scrutiny at borders. OP would be a fool to not consider the possibility that he or she could be detained and/or deported the next time they cross the border. Suck on it, Trump voters---YOU own this |
+1 |
OP is a citizen though. |
Make sure your phone and social media are clean of anything political or political memes. |
Sorry, Politics. Good luck with that, the US President is now threatening to denaturalize political opponents, and encouraging the building of a nationalized system of detention camps. It's not unreasonable for OP.to be at least a bit concerned. We have Norwegians getting rejected at the border because they have goofy joke memes of the VP on their phones. |
There's a difference between calling attention to your political views in that way, and in taking no political positions, whether as a visitor or someone with some kind of legal status short of citizenship. The former are taking a risk the latter are not. |
Not sure there will be a distinction- two days ago the administration threatened a denaturalization investigation against a political opponent. The president has also talked about "deporting" US born citizens who he decides are "the bad ones". This is all off topic at this point, sorry Jeff if you are reading |
