Which is not relevant because that's not the rule for this border crossing. Different countries have different rules related to passport validity- the "6 months rule" isn't an actual rule for all countries, but more like the most restrictive requirement for any country, so a good guide if you don't know specifics. In this case all you need is a valid passport as a US citizen to enter Canada.
