I don’t understand this mentality

I doubt the league owns the field so every practice and game for that field is scheduled way ahead of time. It could be the field is already scheduled for a nighttime event, and it's also likely that it's much more expensive for the field to be used at night and the league doesn't have the budget to schedule that time slot.

Well this mom would simply skip holding games over the summer.

Evening practices every now and then when it isn’t brutally hot would be fine…if necessary.

Your kid will not be missed on the team.

Ooooohhhh burn.

Whatever.

I can’t wait for high school so the travel sports nonsense can end.

Hahahahahahah. You think it ends in high school? Ha. The only way you make these high school teams is to be on, and stay on, your club teams.

Not true.

The club teams are different in HS. Far less demanding.

I’m just struck by how clueless the coaches are to warm up for 60 mins in the heat rather than simply doing a few mins leading into what should be an abbreviated game.

When the temperature plus humidity equals 150 or greater, don't do outdoor sports. It's dangerous.

We don't ride the horses in those conditions.

My kid quit rec soccer after getting migraines playing in the heat.

NP. God, I hate how competitive and goonish some sports parents are. The risks of overexertion for kids during heat waves are real. What’s wrong with some of you?

Sign your kid up for swim team! Problem solved.

I did it. It’s fine. And I’m tougher than you as a result.

You’re free to keep your kid out if they’re too fragile. No one is forcing your kid to play

It can be annoying for sure, but often is a result of limited field availability.

We live in AZ and my kids have played baseball & softball in 110 degree summer temps. Often in the midday sun. Believe it or not, kids do fine (with some precautions in terms of dugout shade and hydration). The parents have a harder time with it.

My DS is a rising freshman and has summer football conditioning (outside) in 110 degree temps as well. He is fine. I definitely would not be.

Not our experience at all. Club demands the same if not more than they did in middle school. And it’s really fun when the two overlap. (I’m speaking of girls soccer- so perhaps it just differs by sport).

So you’d prefer all summer sports be shut down because you and your kid don’t like the heat? Some people are fine with the heat and want to play. You don’t have to participate

I’m also in AZ. The varsity football team had multiple games today. It’s 103.

Thankfully my kid is JV. They played last Tuesday and it was 102 when the games started at 6:30.

OP your kid will live.

This is why I put my kid in orchestra.

I couldn’t agree more!

I drive by sports fields & see so many kids out there playing in such sweltering temps and I feel SO bad for them!! 🥵

And how do we feel about 8am games an hour away from home that require you to leave at 6am on Sunday morning so you can arrive by 7am to warm up?

Do you really think kids enjoy this?
