Amherst vs Davidson..

Amherst has more of an athlete vs. non-athlete divide. Go Davidson.

Amherst, Williams and Pomona are pretty universally considered the top three small schools. Davidson is a notch below. But not so far below that if she is happier at Davidson she shouldn’t go there.

Agreed overall, but Amherst is known for strong connections and outcomes for finance majors.

If you would like to consider survey-based information, note Amherst's inclusion in this Princeton Review site, 'Their Students Love These Colleges":

If so that is only in the minds of the mental midgets on DCUM. There are about a dozen schools with basically identical student bodies and huge resource pools. You can’t actually “rank” them. Davidson is just a smidge below that group, no reason to choose Amherst if one prefers Davidson.

Same goes for about the same number of schools at the top of University rankings. Anyone who thinks HYPSM is actually any different than the others is just an idiot.

Would your DC prefer being a D1 or D3 athlete? That is a big consideration

Did you read the second part of my post that you chose not to highlight? Or were you just looking for a reason to express your angst? Speaking of idiots…

Was coming here to say this. Of course, for some kids this might be a plus.

Anonymous wrote:In general? Davidson, unless you like New England a ton. I find the Amherst campus uninspiring, to say the least, and the resources didn't really seem there if you weren't a Bio/chem/neuro major.

But for this student? Amherst. Business is very pedigree heavy and Amherst has overall better outcomes than Davidson.

Not if considering living in the south (e.g., Charlotte, Atlanta).

I think the gap is even greater among the general public.

Yes, Amherst is that bad.

My daughter just finished her freshman year and Amherst and I was really impressed by the job placement for seniors graduating this year, particularly in finance and consulting. It’s also just a pretty great place with nice people (but bad food! Like really bad. So take note if that’s important)

Let me rattle off all the bad faith anti-Amherst talking points before someone else gets to them:

- Campus is such a dump that opening your eyes is unbearable
- Athletes and non-athletes get into fights if they make eye contact
- Fellowships are so rare that the school holds celebrations if someone gets one
- Academics are so low-caliber that students only go to local state schools for graduate school
- Every single student is an LGBTQ+ test-optional POC

I think that covers it

Are they keeping the same food vendor when the new dining hall opens or getting a better one? Still on track to open fall 2025?

The Southeast is booming. Davidson is a known brand in the Southeast. People in the Southeast know Amherst but they tend to be transplants with ties to the school and/or region. (Retirees especially) once you get out of the Charlotte/Research Triangle/Atlanta areas.
