Occipital Lobe Bump

It could also be occipital neuralgia from neck or scalp tension. Both of those could also impact lymph flow. A massage is an excellent idea. Manual lymph drainage, craniosacral therapy, relaxation. Once there is more ease in your body deeper work might also be of benefit.

A massage beyond the type you can do yourself of the base of your skull and neck isn’t safe.

Hi. That’s disinformation. A skilled BCTMB therapist can help.

Sometimes the problem lies elsewhere. The symptom is base of skull pain/lump. The tension might be from lower or even anterior.

OP, this is almost definitely a lymph node that was reacting to something given the initial tenderness. If it's shrunk that's a very good sign. Don't go down an anxiety rabbit hole, just get an appt with your doc to get some reassurance but I've had mannnnyyy swollen lymph nodes like this. They can take a few weeks to fully shrink.

Or trust a “board certified” masseuse.
