This was a crisis hire. They needed someone fast

Many WL teachers were there to protest his appointment. The school is going to lose a lot of experienced teachers.

Was that someone saying “not you” when he spoke?!?!?

Does anyone know what happened to the previous principal? Why he left so quickly?

People from Alexandria City High School don't have good things to say about him. I think APS just made a big mistake. At this point, every hire is someone from Alexandria City. They apparently can't look further than that for candidates.

Alexander Duncan III

He’s only been there two years?

To be fair people are super weird about ACHS, they like to pretend everything is great even when it is not. Being vocal about issues is discouraged. I have no idea if he is not well liked for a legitimate reason or if he has been trying stuff to right the ship that people don't like

I know a number of teachers there and they were showing up in mass at tonight's school board meeting hoping to speak on the matter. Several have decided to retire or seek transfers as a result of his appointment. Staff really wanted interim principale Whitmore to get the job and feel betrayed that he didn't.

But do we know if Dr. Wilmore even wanted the job? Was he under consideration? My kids seem to like him, and have said teachers like him.

Then why not an AP getting bumped up?

The interim Principal!

Why would Wilmer stay on? He’s already been a principal at Wakefield. His job at Syphax was a promotion.

I am curious whether he wanted it or if it was just that the staff likes him and wanted it. Either way I think it will be a bumpy few years for WL with dtaff shakeups.

ACHS has about 4,500 students - the size of a small town! With its growing English Learner population, it must be a hard school to manage. I agree that principal rankings are mostly disgruntled parents and staff.

Why can’t APS hire just a normal high school principal from a high performing system like FCPS or MCPS. I’d even take LCPS. We got the equity officer which is some made up job, why not a traditional administrator or educator for these roles? Do we not pay enough??

But his position was either going away or being merged with another position in the budget process
