A lot of these “lowest rung” programs are ranked top 20 in the country for that discipline

Read not number 1 and probably trash. Going to grad school that isn’t professional is a waste of time.

This thread would be fun if OP had sufficient self-awareness to realize the stream of L's they are taking.

+1. OP’s kid didn’t get in.

Probably

Or possibly one of the blithering LAC haters who ranks schools based on Greek life and tailgate parties.

This is so weird, OP. If you want to work on something a specific professor is working on for your graduate work, you go to that school. My close friend went to Dartmouth undergrad and Colorado for her PhD.

STEM PhDs have several potential lucrative paths outside of academia/research.

You officially won the most asinine post of the day award. Congrats, OP.

It's really sad that you somehow got to adulthood without realizing that not everyone has the same goals as you.

Waste of time…until they discover the theories that govern modern society. How do you think we have all the luxuries of the 21st century? They are based off of principles discovered by said people.

Anti-Amherst poster going into overdrive today. (though that article is correct in its criticisms)

No, it is a bratty kid who does not want to major in theater. Given the fact that Amherst has an open curriculum, making double-majoring and double minoring supremely easy, and given the fact that theater is undoubtedly the reason the kid even got into Amherst, he sounds, to say the least, ungrateful.

Other liberal arts colleges don’t require you to major in the subject to be apart of the community. It’s actually a really bad idea for a theatre department, because many people drop theatre in college for job prospects and generally just due to time constraints.

I know the author personally. I have had similar experiences with theater at Amherst. Stop acting like you're an expert on things you know nothing about.
