These prices are insanely low. McLean pools are substantially higher. |
They often do not list the prices. Why do you take time out of your precious life just to be rude PP? |
DC is expensive for other things but at least we have more than country clubs to choose from. |
I'm pretty sure most of them have an initiation or share fee. Our so. Alexandria pool/tennis club has a $1000 non-refundable initiation fee plus dues of almost $1000 for a family of 4. Renovations are definitely a thing right now given the 50-75 years some of these clubs have been around. |
We live in the Parklawn/Dowden area - there are no share fees, most of the pools don't have it and are not HOA. |
We use to go to Woodley. There were a lot of Arlington families there (while they were on their neighborhoods waitlist). |
We go to Tuckahoe, and the dues are a sliding scale from about $1000 for one person to $2600 for a family of 4. There is an indoor pool, indoor hot tub too, and exercise equipment, and the outdoor pool is heated and open throughout the winter. So, it is a 12 month membership. The price is higher than when we joined based on their capital plan to make improvements. |
Tuckahoe borders on country club and is not typical of neighborhood pools in the DMV. |
We have an HOA pool. We go to some of the other NVSL pools and cannot believe people actually spend money to join them. So dumpy and unpleasant and grubby. |
Don't forget the $2500 initiation fee. I disagree with the other poster that it's like a country club. It's no nicer than my other pool. The only plus is the indoor pool and really good snack shack. |
So a family of 4 pays $5,100 the first year? About how many memberships do they have? |
Yes, because you don’t spend any money for your pool. HOA dues are $0 in my neighborhood, too. |
board member from a dumpy, unpleasant and grubby pool here. Thanks. Of course our pool isn't as nice as some of the HOA pools. We are run by a small group of volunteers, struggling to keep a 1950s pool in working order without charging fees that will turn our members away. But where would they go? The wait lists for nearby neighborhood pools are years and years long. We do what we can with what we have and try our best to have the pool be a fun place for kids and families to spend time during the summer. |
If I had to do it all over again, I would join Hamlet. It is my favorite pool to visit by far. When my kids were on swim team, Hamlet was the most welcoming too. |
Hamlet has always been a mystery to me. I have heard through the years they have struggled to keep up their membership, have held membership drives, etc etc. I would think in a big neighborhood like that, it's the dream scenario for families. I agree with you - nice place, nice facility, nice people! And an amazing snackbar! |
