How much does it cost to join pools like Dowden Terrace or Parklawn? What about others? Thank you.

Have you heard of googling?

Go to their respective websites and click on Membership.

There is actually a substantial amount of variation. All these pools were built in the 50s and they all need renovations. Typically when the club starts the renovation process there is a big dues hike. Also there is some variety between what the club offers. So direct comparison can be difficult.

And they all have long waitlists. So get on all the waitlists and then when you get an offer decide if it is worth the price.

If you have a good swimmer Dowden will move you up. Membership for them is $650 with a membership fee of $50.

Parklawn is a $730 for a family with a $25 signup fee.

Lincolnia Park is $560 but you have hours to work or you pay $100 workfee.

Forest Hollow is $590 for the head of household and then each family member is $65 with a nanny being free.

Forest Hollow is the only one that does not have a waitlist.

You could go out to Springfield or to Annandale. No waits and the pools tend to cost less.

The only pool that is in need of major renovations is probably Dowden Terrace. The pool is a six lane pool with no diving well or shallower play area. It is the only one that is still with its original footprint and it is cramped.

How far out into Springfield? Our club offers incentives like referral discounts, active military discounts, and I think prorated memberships later in the summer.

Annandale Swim and Tennis it is $575 for up to 6 family members. No waitlist.

Springfield swim club is $655 for a family - but no waitlist.

Also all Arlington pools have a waitlist. They are impossible to get in. Ten years or more.

I think Woodley serves some N. Arlington families. Dowden is a lot of Arlington.

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you for taking the time to write all that out!

Dowden Terrace does have a shallow area -- it's just a separate pool.

There are also the McLean pools like Kent Gardens. I don't know how much they cost, but those might be closer if you're coming from Arlington.

The baby pool? You can't swim in it.

This is mind boggling. I live in suburban Chicago and the absolute cheapest pool near me, usable approximately 10 weeks out of the year, is still $1400.

Same for Raleigh — so much more expensive than these prices for DC area pools

Arlington Knights of Columbus didn’t have a wait list in the past— not sure about now. Also look into Chinquapin, and if you are military or fed gov, Fort Myer.
