I work in a vey high compensate industry, and my manager expects me to respond within 15 minutes. Do I like it? NO but they pay me 450K/yr so I am willing to tolerate it.

Well good for you. But are you the OP? For most of us mere mortals, with regular jobs who don't get paid 450k, we get to tell colleagues to buzz off when we're not on duty.

OP - you sound like a jerk.

And me, who gets paid 95k, will just ignore that coworkers email.

That's a lot of money. For that much, you should be required to be on call at all times.

95k a year is a lot of money?

My husband makes $700k a year - he answers all calls and emails

I make $150k a year - I do not answer outside of work hours unless it’s a true emergency

See how that works?

The sad thing is, if these colleagues went home 1 1/2 hours earlier every day and did not work on weekends, would the company earn $1 less? Probably not. They ruin it for the people who are not workaholics.

I earn 450k/yr and don’t take calls on weekends. They would need to pay me a lot more for me to do that.

I would need to be paid 2 million/yr at minimum to take calls on weekends. Even that amount is iffy though.

Think you are responding to the sarcastic ass on here who seems to be the perfect office politician and loves telling others how wrong they are because they do not bend to the almighty corporation.

What? Do you live in the DC area with student loans and an apartment or a mortgage? Bit! please!

All they have is work. And they choose to work 7 days a week

And they call you on Saturday mornings (while you're canoeing the Shennandoah with your sons) asking about absolutely meaningless trvial things (we work in automotive and aircraft parts supply chain management, not cancer research)..... how do you tell them to piss off?

This lady has done this three times now in the last two months and then 'complained' to our manager how I was 'unresponsive' on the weekend.

Firstly, you have very little idea of my life outside work. You don't know whether I go to any house of worship or what religious practices I may or may not partake in. Secondly you have no idea if I have hobbies or volunteer or what if anything I do with any friends I may have bc I don't talk about thos things. Thirdly, you are not required to answer your phone on the weekends. So just let them leave a voicemail and you can respond when you're ready.

The less people at work know about you, the better. Nobody lives in a vacuum, and people know I have a very sick parent, but other than that, nothing about me.

OP sounds awful. The post could have been written without the nasty speculation about the colleague. When I was at a law firm, there were partners who had a spouse and kids who seemingly worked 24/7, and called/emailed me constantly on weekends. Workaholics aren't necessarily single and childless.

Because that's the culture. In law firms, even if you could get the work done in much less time, you have to show that you would die for them.
