Disappointed with Zepbound

Do you have to track calories? One of the things I liked about taking Wagovy is not thinking about food and calories. My weight fell off effortlessly by just eating whatever whenever, though I did prioritize protein. And I found myself reaching for fruit instead of junk food. I have no idea how many calories I’ve eaten over this past year and I’ve lost 40 pounds.

She says I need to start eating healthier and exercising first so that I can show to her that I'm going to do this the right way. Is she kind of a giant B? Yes, yes, she is. But I actually don't think she's wrong.

Switch doctors. The whole point of going on the drug is to help you change your lifestyle. If she doesn’t understand this, I wouldn’t take any medical advice from her. She’s probably committing malpractice.

Hard disagree. The medication allows you to change your lifestyle. I couldn’t eat three healthy meals a day (plus reasonable snacks) before because I was always too hungry and craving the world of food. With the medication, that is lifted, and I can think clearly now and approach food with rationale and intention.

Agree. While your Dr isn’t wrong in that you need to adopt heathy lifestyle change, Zebound will make the choices around food and how much you’re eating easier.

A lot of people DO make heathy changes and still can’t lose weight. Eating in a calorie deficit is the ONLY way you are going to lose, regardless or food choices and exercise. And that is near impossible for some people with meds

+1. The point of these drugs is to let you live without counting calories. You should be losing weight effortlessly. Get a higher dose or switch to something different.

No, the point of the drug is to help. For most people that requires putting in the work of eating a healthy diet, exercising, staying hydrated etc.

You need a new doctor.

Thanks for the response! I am OP.

It’s not compounded and I have always been a calorie tracker, so I know I am eating at the goal (1500 total, not net) the dietician gave me and it is a change because I was eating more like 1750-1950 and basically maintaining. I do eat 80-100g protein and drink water and get an avg of 8500 steps.

For the rest of this package (3 more pens) I am considering getting more steps now that they days are longer and adding weight training (I hate it).

But, I do think calorie are the biggest thing and it’s confusing because some people say stop restricting, maybe 1500 is too little and some people say eat less (like 1100)! Maybe O should experiment with both.

For me I lose more when I eat a little more, I find I need to add in a bit of carbs to break a stall

I have always used myfitness pal to track my calories, but had been always overeating my 1500-1600 goal. I was eating more like 1750-1950 because of food noise.

Then, started Zepbound and lost 10lbs over the first 7 weeks. Not as fast as some people, but I was happy! I could suddenly meet the 1500-1600 calories the dietician recommended with ease!

Then, for some reason, 2 weeks ago I stalled and actually gained back 1-2lbs even though I went up to the 5mg dose.

I’ve been trying to aim for more like 1500 calories and increased my water and steps but no luck. My doctor just gave me another month of 5mg, but if I don’t start losing again over this month supply, maybe I need to move up dose? She is not super informed. I asked her and she was like, “whatever you want.”

Any experiences to share?

GLP-1 doesn’t work for about a third of people.

That is actually the proper protocol.

Np - I ate worse on it due to extreme fatigue affecting my judgement and my ability to just even want vegetables and fruit. They were repulsive to me somehow, and I normally eat fairly healthy! So I gave up.

Everyone is different but I strongly recommend using a dietary tracker.

This is not only to ensure you don't eat too much, but that you eat enough and of the right things.

Stalls are normal in any weight loss program. The scale is not an accurate measurement of progress one day-to-the-next-day. But if you must weigh daily log the days and chart a graph to measure overall progress.

Stick. To. The. Plan.

You got this, OP.

I had this exact experience on Wegovy but not Zepbound. I am able to eat a healthy diet on Zepbound.

I'm 52, started Zepbound 9 weeks ago. I'm down 44 lbs so far. I still have food noise constantly, but I just feel too full to eat anything. I average 700-900 calories per day (I'm not measuring calories on purpose. I'm just not eating sugar, fried things, mayo, bread- mostly fruit, dried fruit and salad. And pretzels!). I'm also doing Weight Watchers and logging all my food- it tracks fiber, calories, fat, protein, etc which is so handy. Sometimes I think the WW is doing more for me than the Zepbound, but I know I would be hungry all the time without it.

You're not measuring your calories on purpose but you're tracking all your food and macros?
