Im in my early 50s, no menopause yet and started Zepbound about 2 months ago. I was in the obese category at 200lbs and been about that weight for a few years.
I have always used myfitness pal to track my calories, but had been always overeating my 1500-1600 goal. I was eating more like 1750-1950 because of food noise. Then, started Zepbound and lost 10lbs over the first 7 weeks. Not as fast as some people, but I was happy! I could suddenly meet the 1500-1600 calories the dietician recommended with ease! Then, for some reason, 2 weeks ago I stalled and actually gained back 1-2lbs even though I went up to the 5mg dose. I’ve been trying to aim for more like 1500 calories and increased my water and steps but no luck. My doctor just gave me another month of 5mg, but if I don’t start losing again over this month supply, maybe I need to move up dose? She is not super informed. I asked her and she was like, “whatever you want.” Any experiences to share? |
Yes. Stop counting calories and listen to your body. You’re probably not eating enough. |
Are you using a Compounded drug? It probably doesn’t have the potency that it claims it has. |
Switch to Wegovy. |
+1. The point of these drugs is to let you live without counting calories. You should be losing weight effortlessly. Get a higher dose or switch to something different. |
I am on Wegovy and it has worked well (SW:227 CW: 163, 54yo, 5'6").
But what I would say is that I can't lose weight on 1500 calories a day. In fact I would probably gain on it. |
I gain a little back every month before my period and it drops back off. If you don’t lose weight for a month I’d increase to 7.5. |
Yeah I’m on Zep and losing weight but my calorie goal is 1200 calories per day (which is no problem since the food noise is gone). I also don’t eat my exercise calories. |
I have been on zepbound 2.5 for 7 months and lost 47 pounds. But I only eat 1,000-1,200 calories a day. Any more than that and I don’t gain. I don’t feel hungry so it is no issue. I also take walks a few times a week and I left weights 4 times a week. I am 50 years old, 5’2 and now weigh 109. |
I lost a lot of Zepbound but ate about 1,100 cal a day on average. |
You need to eat 1g of protein per kg of weight each day, 4 servings of fruit/veggies, and drink lots of water. I’d recommend joining weight watchers and turning on the GLP1 setting (no need to join the clinic unless you feel your doctor is useless on weight loss). I’ve done this and have lost 30lbs on Wegovy in just about a year.
My criteria for upping my dose was: weight loss stalling, food noise returning and side effects manageable. |
What else are you doing? My doctor is refusing to prescribe Zepbound because she thinks I need to change my lifestyle FIRST. She says I need to start eating healthier and exercising first so that I can show to her that I'm going to do this the right way. Is she kind of a giant B? Yes, yes, she is. But I actually don't think she's wrong. |
Hard disagree. The medication allows you to change your lifestyle. I couldn’t eat three healthy meals a day (plus reasonable snacks) before because I was always too hungry and craving the world of food. With the medication, that is lifted, and I can think clearly now and approach food with rationale and intention. |
Agree. |
Same for me. I now have the mental calm to make good decisions |
