Yeah she has this habit of biting on stuff, straws, sunglasses, pens and the like. Hopefully she will grow out of it but for now nope. And her current hydroflask looks terribly chewed so hopefully the owalas will be a good replacement and the straw area looks hard to chew on and yet still a straw system. Not adhd but maybe just a little anxious. |
| My son has had 2 of those bottles stolen recently. I guess they are a bit too nice. |
|
I use one daily, DD uses one on occasion ( we have 3)
I wash the top part my mouth touches probably every 2-3 days. And the whole thing including the straw with a brush about once a week. No mold. Been doing this for over a year now. |
Owala has more than one type of bottle with the sip straw feature. The one with the flip top — the free sip — is wider than the free sip twist, which is narrow enough to fit in most cup holders. I think the free sip sway also fits cup holders. I’m not sure if the tumbler with the handle does. |
I'm surprised you trust your well. I only serve my family my martyr tears, distilled and desalinated. |
| The problem with these bottles is the spring pops out and once it’s gone the lid doesn’t latch |
| Per DD, they don't hold temperature well. She's using a different water bottle now. |
What’s does she use now and does it also have a straw ? Screw on caps one generally have better insulation but they are also more trouble to open. |
We got one without the straw because dd likes warm beverages at early morning crew practice. But then read the label and found that unlike our yeti that went missing, owala can't be used for hot drinks. |
This is what my kids do too. Highly recommend a brush to get into the corners of the straw opening. If you don't use one and you hand wash it I could see how it gets moldy. Also make sure to let it dry out. If you just leave water sitting in it, that's going to promote mold. |
| Way too much thought about water bottles. Kids have access to cold water pretty much every where they go. What water bottle they have doesn’t matter at all. |
|
We have three in our household. My verdict: overhyped. My lid snap is not working and i only used it for maybe a few months. they are all the hype bcs of the design and the colors, i know, and they do look nice, but i think best water bottles are the simple ones like Takeya or Chillout Life ones.
Also, I didn't know this but the larger owalas are the trendy ones, apparently. The kids don't want the smaller sizes and let me tell you it's NOT because they drink so much water. And guess what, they are heavy, too. So another downside. I don't understand why waterbottles have become like fashion accessories and what's in now is out tomorrow. |
I didn’t think teens would steal someone else bottle. Like it has been in someone’s mouth. More likely pranks to hide it so that you go looking for them etc. |
|
OP here. So we bought two. Verdict. Great bottles. It has a straw but yet Nothing really for my kid to bite on and leave marks on. Great bottle. Keeps cold well too but there is condensation on the cap. (Which could make it more likely to get mold)
I just have to also watch the rubber on the cover apparently. One mom showed me her bottle on how easy that part gets moldy. And she said she only has water washes it daily. She will need to toss out the rubber part and order a replacement. So Will update what will happen to ours. |
Oh shut up. |
