Looks like 80%+ 3’s and 4’s on the report card in grades 4-6 + pass advanced on a 5th grade SOL. But there is also a note that schools may develop their own criteria … so who knows.

And not consistent in FCPS to give this. Many ES do NOT

Yeah I’m not sure that ours does. My kids are still younger ES but I’ve not heard a single thing about this award other than on DCUM.

What is there to hear about it? It’s equivalent to being on the honor roll for multiple years. In our elementary school about 75% of the kids get it. They display the names on the screen and there’s a certificate in the envelope with their promotion certificate.

residential Award in PE or something else?
PE it depends on how well they do in the "testing" SIT AND REACH, PUSH UPS, PULL UPS, The Mile and the paser

My kids are older and only one I can think of is PE. MY DS got a few back in 2008, 2010 ish. It was a letter "singed" By President , It was Obama back then. It might be somewhere in the basement.

I think it’s new-ish. My kids’ school doesn’t do the fitness version anymore, so not sure whether it still exists.

I have been teaching for 15 years. The Presidential Achievement and Excellence awards have existed since I started. Maybe some schools choose not to do them. I don’t think it is required.

Been in FCPS for six years, and I've never heard of this. No one gets this at our school.

Do you teach 6th?

Not every ES in FCPS gives Presidential Awards. I think it's up to the principal. I guess some principals don't want kids to feel left out if they don't get one. Some principals think kids who worked hard should be recognized. I think FCPS should apply the same policy to every school.

It was awarded to only 1 sixth grader when I'm sure many others were just as qualified.

You may be thinking of the Principal Award which only goes to 1-2 students, many students qualify for the Presidential Award.

+1, if you’re not in 6th you may never know it exists.

Not the old fitness one, it’s academic.

Not a fan of schools sharing these awards at the elementary graduation ceremony. It’s just a way for parents and kids to brag that their child got a pass advanced on an SOL.
