| Who gets Presidential Award in Elementary school? Is it who gets either 3s and 4s or 3s and 4s with 1 or 2 2s? |
|
Girls.
That was the case at my son’s ES graduation at least. Almost no boys.
|
| No idea. |
| Subjective. And next years their grades went south in middle school anyway. |
| Excellence are kids who pass adv on at least one SOL and have ALL 3s/4s. Achievement are kids who pass SOLS and have MOSTLY 3s and 4s. This is what we do at our school. |
| Is this 6th grade only? |
| I live in another state and never heard of the Presidential Award. |
It’s just a certificate signed by the president based on good grades and high scores on SOL’s |
The SIA runs a report based on preset criteria. |
|
The child must also have attended FCPS for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade unless the principal gives an exception.
My child had the grades and the SOL scores, but 5th grade was the Covid year and we homeschooled. As a result, my child was denied the Presidential Award, and we didn't find out until the awards ceremony. It sucked, as my child expected to get the award and had no idea why they weren't honored. Despite the teacher begging, the principal refused to grant an exception after the fact. |

Looks like 80%+ 3’s and 4’s on the report card in grades 4-6 + pass advanced on a 5th grade SOL. But there is also a note that schools may develop their own criteria … so who knows. |
And not consistent in FCPS to give this. Many ES do NOT |
| Also wouldn't want one signed by cheeto man! Glad mine are past this age. |
Yeah I’m not sure that ours does. My kids are still younger ES but I’ve not heard a single thing about this award other than on DCUM. |
Does the same apply at MS but with As and Bs vice 3s and 4s? |
