Did we pull the cake out of the oven too soon again?

Of the 20 or so young girls who turned pro...maybe 2 of them look legit so far. The girl for the Spirit unfortunately is a total miss...I actually feel bad for her when I watch her play. I'd love to talk to the people that thought it was a good idea to push her "pro" path at 15. Totally ridiculous, there are girls in the DMV the same age playing club that are better.

Thank you for a good post. She should not be blamed. She was a child when the decision was made. Whatever adults told her to go pro, were looking for clout. I know of one DMV area under 19 team that she wouldn’t even make the starting 11 for.

You have no idea how wide the gulf is between pro and youth club soccer. NO IDEA.

You have no idea how many players are scouted and approached by NWSL teams, but turn it down to go to college for at least a year.
NO IDEA.

This year, there are 3 NWSL rookies who are under 20. All 3 are experienced u17/u20 National Team players.

LOL keep telling yourself that. Your child is definitely better than Chloe

My child is definitely not better than her. But a few players on my child’s team are.

What team? You won’t say, because it’s BS.

Are you a hardcore Washington Spirit fan or her mom?

What does it mean that the ECNL Girls post has more action than the USYWT U20 Girls post?

In the age of NIL I can believe female players turning down pro for a year or two—only a small percentage of them make a significant income.

Look the US style of play is big fast physical athletes. This is the college game which is also the ECNL game. There are technically players in the US but the US system pushes them to the side and does not develop that type of talent. The US system does not produce or rely on technical players like the rest of the world does. When you have never played against a technical team with a higher speed of team play you get beat.

The national youth team wins are not important. The important thing is to continually replace older players on the national with new talent. Playing a system that depends on big, fast and physical mean you need to stay young. Any player over 26 really has to be looked at hard. Over 30 no way. If they do that they will always be in contention. Let the rest of the world play the beautiful game.

They lost to an inferior Canadian team. They looked small and slow. Emma Hayes has the full team playing her style already. Need to stop picking the same players every tournament in the youth teams. U20's don't look big or fast. Chloe Ricketts, Kennedy Fuller etc. are 5 foot 1 and are the face of the team as "pros". Makes ZERO sense. There are better players at that age that deserve opportunities.

This is very true and I think it is starting to happen. The ID Centers for younger players have expanded quite a bit and you are starting to see different names getting invited into camps at some of the younger ages. Getting more players involved and experienced within the system will only benefit the overall team in the long run. The work that Emma Hayes is doing to set the womens game apart from the mens game and the infusion of $$ from Michele Kang are helping this cause, but it won't happen overnight.

It's a long road to get more players in the system and up to speed, but I really think it's starting to happen.

The U20s should be okay next year at the U20WWC if the NWSL releases some of the top 06s/07s who were not included in the Concacaf roster (or were playing up with the U23s, etc)

Bugg (was w U23s)
Hutton (played w full USWNT team)
Fuller (wasn't there for the Canada gm)
Armstrong
Adames
Pfeiffer (injured, but should be ready next yr)
Barcenas?

Plus there clearly were some players on this Concacaf roster that will not be part of the WWC roster. They had little impact.
