Have you made a plan for the newly-freed-up income? If it were me, I'd spend a whole mortgage payment on something celebratory, and THEN start squirreling it away.

OP here. We just booked a vacation: nothing fancy, but we rarely go, so it will be special.

It's such a nice feeling to be debt free

It is the best. We’ve been mortgage free in two houses for a couple of years. The. U expectedly had to get a car a few months the ago and didn’t have liquid funds so had to take a loan. Paying it off tomorrow and joining you in being debt free again.

Condo paid off free and clear, has been source of rental income for 20 years. Owe $60K on our residence and $45K on our beach house. Both will be paid off in 4 years. Really looking forward to freeing that money up.

Poor people have a mortgage. Rich people have two.

Congrats. It was freeing when we paid ours off.

Money in the bank gives you choices. Enjoy it.

I look forward to 2040ish when our mortgage is paid off.

You know even those low interest rate mortgages far paid off. That OP’s is paid off is No indication of the mortgage rate.

+1 eventually that low rate mortgage gets paid off. But, you shared your superior financial knowledge so I guess that made you feel good.

Congratulations!

Just curious how much are you still paying in taxes and insurance.

I remember my dad once saying that was more than his original mortgage “once his was paid off”…, and what was your original mortgage payment.

Great job! We paid ours off in our 40s and have enjoyed the extra cash for nicer vacations and private school. Well done!
