Have you made a plan for the newly-freed-up income? If it were me, I'd spend a whole mortgage payment on something celebratory, and THEN start squirreling it away.

OP here. We just booked a vacation: nothing fancy, but we rarely go, so it will be special.

I am so sorry you were not able to capture a large 30 year fixed rate mortgage under 3%. I am loving making my mortgage payments from my high yield savings account and watching the account go up every month.

You know even those low interest rate mortgages far paid off. That OP’s is paid off is No indication of the mortgage rate.

What high yield! I get 5-20% several times a month tax free.

That is awesome! People get so bent out of shape about a paid off mortgage. Depending on circumstances and plans, its one of the best things you can do! If you want to stay in your house and you are in a high cost of living area and want to retire, paid it off while you are still earning!
