Caribbean at Christmas - I know...

You want a place that reserves the chairs the day before, either for free or for money. Some places have both (they charge for the chairs in the "better" locations and the other chairs can be reserved for free."

OMG I am following this thread and can't believe the beach chair is a thing in the carribbean now. I completely thought it was a german tourist or a benidorm thing. This is disheartening and trashy behavior. Reservations seem to be a glimmer of hope, but wow.

I will never understand why anyone prefers to sit by a pool when the ocean is right there.

If all you want is a nice pool, go to Palm Springs. The weather is warm and sunny, and you can rent a house with a nice pool if you don’t want a resort.

With that budget, you may be able to get a condo or small beach house. Look at Grandcaymanvillas.

We've recently been to Grand Cayman over Christmas break. We stayed at the Caribbean Club---it's a boutique condo hotel, so you get lots of room/privacy and none of the crowds of the big resorts. There is also a fantastic restaurant on the property. We had NYE dinner there and enjoyed fireworks on the beach afterward.

Or somewhere that there are at least as many chairs as there are guests.

I'm sure a few really good deals in PR.

We love Tulemar in CR but it's on the pricey side at $800/night.

St. Lucia Sugar Beach is another one we really loved.

If it were me, I'd find myself the most beautiful Airbnb/VRBO and indulge in R&R there. We do a mix of resorts/homes as we also need 2 rooms as we are a family of 4 with 2 teens.

With prices what they are now, we don't do the islands anymore - we do CR, PR still and will be trying Belize next season. My dream resort would be Rosewood Little Dix Bay

PS I forgot to say - we do high quality resorts that are $$$ or we do beautiful affordable airbnb/vrbo - we don't do affordable resorts because so often esp during high season, not worth it. For me it's about value. The price can be high if the value is worth - go big or go a different way

It will be cold. Might as well go to Atlantis.

It’s been a while since that poster has mentioned that hotel - glad they came back for an appearance!

Mill Reef Club or find some other couples to split a place in St. Barts. The reality is that if you are NOT going to MRC or St. Barts, you are just slumming.
