Is this OP? I'm not asking how you feel about screen time personally, I'm asking if the school itself sets limits, and if so do they vary between schools. Limits on screens were set by parents as far as I know. |
Not at my school |
I'm not the OP but screentime is not necessarily because of teacher quality and I'd hesitate to make any correlation at all. Screens are currently used in DCPS for testing. They may also be used to provide additional resources as needed for kids as schools in DC have wildly different resources when it comes to books and programming. There are also some schools with brand new gyms and climbing walls and cafeterias and large libraries. And there are some with crumbling buildings not nearly large enough so when it rains there are not always other options. Screens are also, like it or not, a part of life. If you're in your 30s you've probably been using a computer most of your life, including at school. You're using a screen during working hours to complain about screens. I'd like a bit less of it but bad teachers may never use screens and good teachers may absolutely use them when appropriate. |
Limits on screens were set by parents as far as I know. Screen use IN SCHOOL. Not whether the kids have phones. I"m talking about watching KidzBop in the 3 minutes between centers in Kindergarten. Watching movies in Music class. Watching TV nonstop in aftercare. Not parents. Teachers. |
Great question. All other schools nearby that were convenient had similar problems. |
Got it, u don't want to teach in Title 1. |
OK, here is my official screen time response. This is from the OP. I think screens should be banned for kids from K to five. I think we should return to work books with handwriting, phonics, awareness, phonemic awareness, and everything else that goes along with the research that supports our kids in learning how to read and write. |
Do you believe that it's perfectly fine for a district to fire you for no reason, or for made-up reasons, with zero recourse? Are you prepared for that eventuality? |
As the original poster, are you a title one teacher? If so, can you verify your credentials? Otherwise then STFU! |
The question was about whehter there were mandates from your JKLM school admin, not about your opinion. Honestly based on your inability to respond to questions here South Carolina's gain is not DC's loss. |
Yes, because I’m somewhat decent teacher. |
There were absolutely no mandates from my admin. |
Married to one in the trenches, have no sympathy for the JKLM types. |
Seriously. Holy moly reading comprehension. |
+2 I’m now pretty confident that this is a troll. It was so obvious what the question was but the OP isn’t here to answer questions about how schools actually work, she’s here to spread her own opinions about how schools “should” work and do it under the guise of having insider knowledge. I mean, look at her suggested topics - the lottery? School unions? These are hot button political topics, not areas with distinct insider knowledge. Heck, in my experience parents know way more about the lottery than teachers, which makes sense - teachers teach the kids they get! Plus going from DCPS to a non-union school in the Carolinas is going to be a roughly 2/3 pay cut. This story doesn’t pass the sniff test. I’d suggest we not give this thread any more attention. |
