Talk to me about the Gonzaga college Instagram

What do you expect from a school with mostly country club kids and hardly any diversity?

These read very inside joke-y to me. Satire. Some are serious but really, common sense people...obviously many of these are purposely ridiculous. These are the some of the most recent ones:

"After college, he plans on going to law school so he can fight for puppies!!!!!!!"

"After college he plans on being a good person."

"After college, he plans on heading to Wall Street and cornering the frozen concentrated orange juice market."

"After college, he hopes to post Family Guy clips on TikTok for a living."

"After college, he hopes to build robots and take over the world."

"After school, he hopes to live as a sherpa in the Himalayan Mountains with his pet yak, Jean Jacques."

"After college, he plans on exploring the American frontier on his horse."

"After college, he hopes to dig a hole to China and fix the traffic on GW and Canal."

"After college, he hopes to be a trophy husband and a stay-at-home dad."

"After college, he hopes to fly jets and fight bad guys like Tom Cruise."

"After college, he plans on attending dental school and learning kung fu from Master Shifu so he can become the next dragon warrior."

"After college, he plans on beginning a coconut empire."

Student studying economics: "After college, he plans on returning home to industrialize Tenleytown."

"After college, he intends on harvesting maple syrup professionally and starting a moose grooming company."

"After college, he hopes to become a genius billionaire philanthropist."

"After college he looks forward to starting a clandestine black box organization along with [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and [REDACTED]."

"After college, he plans on becoming a famous pirate."

"After college he wants to hop around with the kangaroos down under in Australia."

"After college he is going to escape the matrix and live on an undisclosed mountain."

"He hopes to break into the fast food scene as a Taco Bell product tester after college."

Heh. Some of those are pretty funny.

The pearl clutching...goodness gracious! Some of you will look for any reason to be offended. Gonzaga in particular seems to make some of y'all lose your basic critical thinking skills. I wonder why that is.

Someone is looking to be offended. The Instagram is actually run by college counseling, but anyone who can’t see the fun, satire, and inside jokes here is either deliberately obtuse or obtuse - both are a pretty rough life to live with.

The Gonzaga haters that appear on these pages always make me laugh. It’s fun to watch adults paint everyone with a broad brush. We wonder why our kids continue to behave as they do.

Which might be a useful comment for schools that cost that much. Not useful here.

Sorry, $35k. Huge difference

$60K isn't a huge difference? Invested throughout HS, that's usually paying for a full year of college at least.

No, for normal people it isn’t a huge difference because we can’t afford either tuition. You’re living in a dcum bubble.

This is the OP. 10:23 and 10:25, you have very much misread the situation. I am the opposite of looking to be offended. I am looking to be reassured because Gonzaga would be a good option for us and the Gonzaga page really stands in contrast to what I am seeing for other schools. I haven't fully quantified, but it seems like the boys are so heavily concentrated on finance and engineering, much more so than other schools even other all boys schools. And I wonder how the service orientation of Gonzaga plays out later in their lives.

You're telling me that a $35K tuition isn't more attainable to a larger percentage of the population via financial aid than $50K tuition?

I would contact the school with your question. They can likely set you up with some alumni who can speak on that better than randoms (who may or may not be well-meaning) on an anonymous message board.

If you can’t afford either tuition why are you here? Do you just want to feel socioeconomic/class envy and post snarky comments?

There’s a DCUM forum for you that fits your budget. It’s called the public school forum. I think you’ll feel more comfortable there.

Look at the Yorktown HS insta (in North Arlington) and its not much different.

It's not $50k a year.

Shocking, I know. Rich kids want to continue to be rich.

Of course it is, that's why Gonzaga has their biggest class in over 200 years and why they didn't go to the waitlist. People chose Gonzaga over Prep or St. Alban's precisely because it was is cheap. It flows downhill. I know kids who chose O'Connell over Gonzaga because it's cheaper as well. Times are tough.

Right. That's hardly the case.

I wouldn't read much into it. For what it's worth, many colleges don't even have you declare your major until sophomore year, so who knows what they'll be interested in doing a year from now? I changed my major like ten times.
