Always healthy teen sick all middle school

I think it’s a post covid thing. My family has been horribly sick the past 3 years. We’re very healthy, no environmental issues.

Might need Vitamin or might have some gut issue compromising his immunity.

I swear one of mine is perfectly healthy and then if he has a stressful month, he is sick non stop.

Yep, this is also a possibility. Stress weakens my immune system, and it started about that age.

Mymycolab testing is available without a dr order. You can check your son’s blood levels of many types of mold and work from there. We as a family got extremely sick from hidden mold in our former home. It first started as constant illnesses ( flu b 3 times in one season). Dr couldn’t believe it and called lab as we’d had so many other things as well but they never thought to test for mold. If it’s negative maybe have them check immunoglobulin levels and see if his immune system is working properly?

COVID screwed up immune regulation in a lot of people.

That’s pretty bad. You should email the board of health in your town or city. They will make sure there’s soap the next day. In the meantime tell the principal to bring in soap for all the bathrooms until this gets resolved. That’s how hepatitis A gets around.

This has been common in every school I’ve ever worked at. I’ve been teaching for 28 years.

Same. I’ve brought in soap, paper towels, TP, etc to my school for the entire 13 yrs I’ve been there.

This is easy, elementary school is much smaller, less class changes, less kids, less exposure. Middle School is 7 periods so changing classes, changing students, changing teachers, 7x more exposure

I talked to my immunologist about this because in had the opposite occur. I am immune compromised and am prone to frequent infections, my whole life. (3-5/year). Since COVID, I have been the healthiest with maybe 1 cold in 4 years? It’s almost like a reset the other way. No explanation. No I don’t wear masks or stay home.

This. Personally, I haven’t noticed my kids getting more sick in middle school, but the above is definitely true. Plus the teacher that said bathrooms are routinely out of soap is correct as well. But even if they are filled, lots of teens/older kids don’t wash their hands at all, ever.

College dorms…just wait.

Middle schools draw from a bunch of different elementary schools, new germs, more people, more exposure.

Does his school have soap in the bathroom? Not joking, but DD reported the school bathrooms never have soap so we bought a tiny bottle that she keeps in her bag.

Her sicknesses decreased after that simple change.

Just came to say that DS was sick most of his freshman year of college dorm living and lost 15 pounds.

Send your request to the PTA.

Middle and HS PTAs are very different than elementary schools. That’s another change.
