How does that bode for tampon (I wouldn’t) or swimming?

What is your hang up with using a tampon if it’s not a heavy flow day? There is no danger to using a tampon at the tail end of a period when your flow isn’t heavy.

Op here. I’ve wanted to match absorbency with flow. Is that not a thing I’ve had to be concerned about for 25 years?

That is not a thing you should have been concerned about all these years.

Well thanks to my 1940s-born mom for not teaching me, and me reading the back of the box. (Laughing tears)

It’s really only a concern if you are using a tampon not absorbent enough for your flow so that it ends up saturated and allows leaking. There is no issue with using a tampon that is more absorbent than you need.

Agreed! Back off, mom!

She asked me.
She is in the first 6 months, and she asked me for guidance.

+1
I use them even on spotting or unpredictable days. You cannot use period underwear as swimwear - it will look like she’s swimming in underwear and have a weird line if she tries to put it under a suit. Either a tampon or overnight some swim wear

Back of the box citing TSS?
I fainted while wearing a tampon as a teen, and felt sick, and I always thought it was related. (Maybe I was just sick)

Lightest tampon + swim shorts if she’ll wear them. If not, just the tampon - it’ll be fine.

Maybe you'd lost enough iron (blood) that you were anemic and just needed to eat more iron-rich foods at that time of month.

My daughter is a swimmer. She has used a tampon most periods of her life. She tried a cup too, liked it for a bit, then went back to tampons.

She definitely wouldn't risk a leak at practice, so I am sure she has used them no matter how light the flow that day. We have ALL the tampon absorbencies between us, ha ha, so I know she chooses accordingly.

I was a swimmer and wore tampons starting from my first period. It is totally fine to wear one in this scenario and will prevent her form being very embarrassed.

Just get a “light days” tampon from Tampax - they are purple. Perfect for days 4-6 of your period when it’s more brown and barely there.

Light days tampon. If it doesn't fill up that's fine!

Ok this is TMI but want to help ease your concern about tampons. I forgot one, once, probably for about a week. Had sex even. And that sucker got stuck up there. I had to get a GYN to remove it. No infection. Was totally fine other than my horrific humiliation. TSS is real but very rare.

My daughter has and uses period underwear for days that I think are like your DD is describing. It’s basically gone but she’s worried about unpredictable spotting. Is that it? She uses them for that or if she thinks she might get it on a day she’s at a pool. I would not recommend them in place of a tampon.

No one would ever know. They don’t look any different than bikini bottoms. I bought online and her most worn are Ruby Love but there are many brands.

Light flow tampon has no issues, and if she's comfortable with her body, use a cup. I didn't find cups until my early 40s, and I'll never go back, best thing ever invented
