GLP-1 Takers - are people really this rude in real life?

It goes both ways I think. I know people who take GLP in real life. No one talks to me about suddenly acquiring a superpower or how they want to get from a BMI of 20-21 to a BMI of 19. So it seems like lots of dumb things get said on the internet that don’t get said in real life.

I don't keep it a secret or lie about it, but it just doesn't come up.

People aren't being rude, you are just too defensive. You wouldn't have a problem crediting the drug if you didn't feel guilty about it. Stop feeling protective and guilty, you really shouldn't, people who take statins to help
With cholesterol don't feel the need to hide it, why should you?

Why would people even talk about it? No one brings up what antidepressants, anxiety meds, or other meds they are on. Why would people bring up this? I don’t care who is on what and unless you are by closest friend, I don’t want to hear about your medical weight loss journey

Who tells people about statins? I wouldn't tell anyone anything about my medical history except my husband.

It’s the American ethos that everything has to come to us through hard work. We can’t accept that there might be another way. Doesn’t seem fair. Also hard work is not enough when genetics and other factors (psychology, neurology, metabolism, culture, etc etc) are at play.

I have watched this guy at my gym for years workout with his personal trainer. In a year I witnessed him lose at least 100lb.

When I complemented his trainer randomly when he was not there; she kind of rolled her eyes and said “not me; pharmacist”…and explained that after 3-4 year of her working with him and free diet guidance only the drugs changed things.

I could give an f about this guy I see at the gym, but clearly his trainer had another view.

It's so weird to me that someone like that wouldn't be willing to acknowledge how awesome that is.

That also shows that for some people it really isn't about putting in the work. It sounds like that guy has been working for years on improving his health. Some bodies have a really hard time letting go of weight. Obesity is an incredibly complex disease. People that say 'calories in calories out' have absolutely no understanding of hormones and our endocrine system. It's amazing that all of his hard work is paying off. The fact that a drug helped that in no way diminishes his efforts.

This.

I have had extensive weight gain due to medication, and when I started on Wegovy my BMI was 36. Additionally, the people who know me well know what healthy food I eat. So no one is going to yell “Stop eating Twinkies! Try that for once!” at my face. Because they know my lunch was a kale salad and grilled chicken and my breakfast was Greek yogurt, berries and chia seeds.

They are speculating like you are and that's their problem, not mine..

I guess that show “the biggest loser” would not work now with the drugs; but that show did have some success for some of the contestants.
It would be interesting to see the long term studies on who keeps the weight off with and without drugs.

This is not how normal people process information, OP. My friends are normal people who don't think in such defective ways.
