Well, given that half of my family converted in order to marry other Catholics, the entirety of Catholic practice over the course of the last 1500 years would like a word with you. |
I'm the one who posted this. I am a Catholic who converted to Catholicism so that I would have the same religion as my then fiance. But he didn't force me. My conversion didn't make him more Catholic. I'll add that there have definitely been times when Catholic practice included forced conversions. But that is not currently a teaching of the Catholic church. The fact that Vance converted after his marriage is also relevant. |
God works in mysterious ways, and I am perfectly prepared to accept that this highly imperfect man has found God, even though it looks to jaded outsiders that he's just a striving hypocrite looking to attach himself to any and all institutions of power.
But yes, the jokes just write themselves. Watch out for Pope Leo falling sick over the next few days. |
Apparently the Pope gave Vance 17 whole seconds in a receiving line but conducted longer meetings with other world leaders. This followed a service where the Pope sermonized, “In this our time, we still see too much discord, too many wounds caused by hatred, violence, prejudice, the fear of difference, and an economic paradigm that exploits the Earth’s resources and marginalizes the poorest.” https://www.thedailybeast.com/pope-leo-xiv-snubs-jd-vance-as-he-meets-with-world-leaders/ |
+1. You can tell these are GOP trolls responding and not actual devout Catholics. What they're arguing is James is going to Heaven and his wife is going to hell -- and that's okay. ![]() |
I'll be happy when it's no longer trendy to be Catholic. |
There was a separate 45 min talk with Vance, Rubio and the pontiff, PP. No journalists present. |
Let’s all pray a novena |
How do you know he didn’t have his kids baptized? |
I am the poster you quoted and that’s my point. Occasionally skipping Mass because you have a demanding job is a tiny sin compared to deporting 4 year olds with brain cancer, or stopping HIV prophylaxis for pregnant women in Africa. If Vance goes to Hell it won’t be because he missed a Holy Day of Obligation. |
We know he did not have his kids baptized because of this--his son was 7 when he chose to be baptized. https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/jd-vance-my-sons-decision-to-be-baptized-was-more-exciting-than-winning-2024-election/ |
I’m happy for him and his son, but we all know that the kid was basically confronting a situation where all his classmates were going to get First Comminion parties and presents, and he’d be left out unless he got baptized. |
lol |
Which one? |
I’m just wondering if anyone has ever seen him at Sunday mass. |
