The Secrets We Keep on Netflix

I found the setting interesting. I looked up Filipina au pairs in Denmark and they comprise 75 percent of all au pairs there, although according to law in the Philippines, it is not legal. Goes to show further the powerlessness that Ruby may have felt in her situation.

Did anyone find the motherhood angle interesting? The lead was able to work and take care of herself (go on runs, get good sleep) because the au pair was there… who had to make her own difficult choice…

Of course. Many caregivers (nannies, etc.) have to leave behind their own children in order to move to a foreign country to make money. It’s heartbreaking. Another show that had similar themes was Expats with Nicole Kidman.

I reallly enjoyed it and blew through the show, but I did think it wasn’t reallly believable Cecelia would marry a convicted rapist (I thought they’d go the statutory rape angle but they didn’t) and Katarina was unnecessarily evil - they could have made her a more complex person.

My favorite thing was Cecelia’s house. That marble!

Same. I find the voices/voice actors they use don't match the character and it messes with my experience. Was on the fence, will check it out.

I found the end supremely unrealistic when the two couples get together as friends. Seriously? After the way Katarina treated Cecelia, they just hug and make up? And who threw the rock through Cecelia's window - was it Katarina or Oscar?

+2
I never do the dubbed versions - only subtitles. I want to hear the actual actors' voices.

The whole plotline felt predictable (except the last 10 min which were only predictable for the last episode or two), the neighbors were annoying stereotypes, and there were too many times I thought to myself, “who would react that way to X?” I did like the lead actress.

Who would be friends with those sleazy neighbors?

I am only one episode in and I think this is very interesting cultural commentary. Their complete indifference to her disappearance shows they don't even see these women as human.

I really wanted them to be the next victims! Horrible people.

One thing that was never really resolved - why was there a photo of Rasmus with Ruby and another au pair (as well as some other men) and the au pairs were all dressed up? It gave very obvious unsavory vibes, but was it just a red herring?

Really good show, but each episode gave me such a feeling of dread.

It wasn't very well written and the actors were pretty bad. It was just on iota above soap opera quality.

I can't believe how unobstrusive the police way. Just waiting for ppl to come to the one officer with tips, no search of the house or anything. I hope it's unrealistic!
