Add to that pathetic yield of 15% even though half the class is drawn from early decision.

SAT
25% is 1160
50% 1280

Absolute trash statistics.

To pile on, that is the SAT stats of the 54% who bothered to submit an SAT. You can imagine what the real number would be if everybody submitted.

Not sure what your grudges are. Yes, it’s not Williams, but its numbers are in line with any of the LACs in the 26-50 range. For example, I just looked up Dickinson, which has a similar acceptance rate, higher 50th percentile SAT score but only 19 percent submitting, and the same yield. It’s not news that everyone in the world wants to get into the top 25 universities and the top 25 SLACs, and the rest are hard-pressed to attract the top students.

The coach seems lovely, and I know it’s very expensive but I am hoping they offer a good scholarships and aid. Does anyone know the atmosphere, vibe, etc. Any information would be amazing.

Did you visit? We thought the location was the worst of both worlds. It's stuck on the edge of a depressing city without anything to walk to, but also not near nature either. My urban loving kids rejected it based on location and so did my nature loving kid.

Isn’t it right on the sound?

No. That's a lie. It's not right on the sound. Last fall, our tour guide had us stand on a bench so we could kinda make out that the sound was in it distance somewhere. It's closer to a very industrialized river.

Industrialized? What does that even mean? Sounds like a dam.

A whole string of posts with nothing that can’t be googled in five minutes.

Do any of you know anything useful about the school? Have you been there? Know any alums or any current students?

This is a college that's in for some tough sledding when the demographic cliff kicks in.

If you're looking at the bottom of the NESCAC, then look at Trinity. It's a much more dynamic college than Conn.

But it's not on the sound. That's not hate. It's the truth.

There are a lot of truly no name schools that aren't discussed here that will primarily be feeling the pain. Perhaps not in the conversation here, but Conn College is better than the vast majority of schools in America. It will be fine.

Location and being in the NESCAC will shield Conn. They distinguish Conn from other schools in the 25-50 ranks. Being in New England is more desirable than PA or upstate NY or the Midwest, and the NESCAC is the most competitive conference in D3. There will always be kids who want to compete at that level but may not have quite the stats for the tippy top schools.

I went to Conn, and loved it. The location isn’t really walkable to anywhere great, but the campus is lovely. A lot of kids have cars, and then you are very close 10-20 minute drive to some nice beaches and towns (Mystic, Stonington, etc). Amtrak is in downtown New London, so easy access to nyc and Boston. I loved no Greek life, so was happy with the social life too.

Two of my high schools friends went there. They got kicked out of private school for bad grades. One of them is a billionaire now. The other one is very successful too.

The Thames River is very industrialized. It's a wide estuary river for traffic into the deep water ports of New London and Groton, two grubby, dirty little cities that are Conn's closest neighbors. Not really scenic or quaint. Mystic is pretty, but that's a drive. Your kid won't be hanging out in Mystic, or walking along a beach on the sound.

They offer merit aid so if needed, that will help. One of the few NESCAC schools that does.
