Connecticut College

My daughter is getting recruited at a bunch of D3 schools for her sport. One of the ones that is peaked interest is Connecticut College. Does anyone know anything about this college? The coach seems lovely, and I know it’s very expensive but I am hoping they offer a good scholarships and aid. Does anyone know the atmosphere, vibe, etc. Any information would be amazing.

I think it's a great school.

*piqued interest

A pet peeve, and also if you happen to use the term in an email to a college rep, you want to spell it correctly. It’s so commonly misspelled (along with “the sun peeked [not peaked] from behind the clouds”)

If the sun peaked from behind the clouds, it may not only be accurate, once a day, but it sounds majestic. Peeking behind the clouds is cliche; never use that phrase.

Didn't we just have this discussion? Your child was also being recruited by Ithaca?

Conn College is a great school. Low end of NESCAC but no shame in that. It is small and kind of remote, though not as remote as some of the other NESCAC schools.

I know someone with a pretty non-conformist kind of kid from a good suburban public HS who goes there and is really happy. And I know they got good aid.

CC gives good merit. DD was offered $38K and she’s not an athlete. She committed elsewhere but this was one of the more affordable options after merit and was a strong contender. Just too far away and too small for DD.

Did you visit? We thought the location was the worst of both worlds. It's stuck on the edge of a depressing city without anything to walk to, but also not near nature either. My urban loving kids rejected it based on location and so did my nature loving kid.

Small, bisected campus, lowest of the NESCAC schools, highest acceptance rate, lowest prestige, lowest bar to being a recruited athlete, 48% of freshmen class drawn from early decision, of which there was a 41% admission rate.

Add to that pathetic yield of 15% even though half the class is drawn from early decision.

SAT
25% is 1160
50% 1280

Absolute trash statistics.

Isn’t it right on the sound?

To pile on, that is the SAT stats of the 54% who bothered to submit an SAT. You can imagine what the real number would be if everybody submitted.

My son runs there and loves it. It seems like almost everyone gets a merit scholarship of $30K or more. Happy to answer any questions.

That’s a ridiculous take. The campus is literally an arboretum. It’s right on the water, and a beautiful beach is 10 minutes away.

Why do you need to use the word "trash?" Does that make you feel tough. You can cite statistics. You can say that they are weaker than the rest of NESCAC. But completely insulting a school is childish.

No school is "trash." Every kid runs their own race. Different schools are appropriate for different kids. And different families have different circumstances, financially and otherwise.

And I say this knowing that I am almost certain that my spouse and I combined have more Ivy League degrees than you and your spouse. We don't feel the need to be snobs, unless dealing with "trash" like you.
