Warm feeling in one calf

You might want to take a baby aspirin as well.

How do they check?

there is a very quick and simple blood test called a d-dimer. If it's positive you might have a clot (not definite) and they do other testing to find out; if it's negative you almost definitely do not have a clot.

I went to the ER was what turned out to be a cramp the other day (I had a really awful cramp right after being on a long flight so I figured better safe than sorry). They actually went straight to an ultrasound.

My cramp did turn out to be a DVT (and PE). It's good that you checked.

After a particularly long walk one day, I felt some pain in the back of my right calf that lasted for 2 days and then went away. It was intermittent pain when I put pressure on it sometimes, but it really wasn’t bad - I wasn’t limping, it was just noticeable.

Since the pain went away (completely, have zero pain at all) I started feeling warm sensations in the back middle of that same calf that lasted for 5-10 seconds and come and go throughout the day. It’s hard to describe, I just feel a warm sensation for a few seconds and then it’s gone. However - that calf does not actually feel hot or any warmer than my other calf (which doesn’t have this sensation at all). It’s not swollen, red/discolored, zero pain, it just a weird feeling.

Has anyone had this happen before? Wondering if it’s something muscular. Of course my mind goes to a blood clot, but it feels a bit crazy to go to the doctor when I have zero other symptoms and this has been happening for like 4 days (and I have still been walking despite it).

I could walk on my leg that turned out to have a DVT. For me it wasn't that painful, but actually was huge.

Thanks all. Spoke with my GP and she is having me come in today. She can run the d-dimer test in the office (will take blood) and examine me to determine if I need to go to the ER.

Keep us posted – I see post here before about warm sensations and mostly I see people say it is nerve related.

The examination doesn't work unless symptoms are extremely obvious. She can't see inside your leg and not all cases have swelling, redness etc.

It's OK. If d-dimer is positive, OP can go straight to an ER (and get someone to watch the kids).

I had warm and electrical like sensations up and down my leg (mainly in back) that turned into Shingles within the week!

Well, if you ask these ladies it will be sudden death by heart attack, stroke or cancer.

But mostly likely it's muscular. Try a cold pack and advil.

Go to the National Blood Clot Alliance stories page. It's filled with stories of people who thought their blood clot was a muscle strain.

Could be a Baker’s cyst. Blood clot less likely if moving around. Smoking and birth control pills increase likelihood of DVT ( deep vein thrombosis).

Just go to urgent care. If it's nothing it's just some time. If it is something getting seen could save your life.

I have something similar to this. Sometimes feels like I'm peeing myself/warm liquid running down the back of my leg.

I'm pretty sure I have venous insufficiency.

Adding another thought of blood clot.

This is OP. Went to my GP. She examined my leg and thinks it’s likely muscle or nerve related but said it’s worth being thorough to rule out a clot. Since it tends to only happen when I am walking or after I have been using my muscle (ie after I walk up steps) and there were no other red flags for a clot she doesn’t think that’s what it is.

She said I could go to the ER today if I want to be extra cautious, but she doesn’t think it’s an absolute emergency since it’s been happening for 5 days now and has not progressed so she ordered an ultrasound and I will go to a radiology place to get it done tomorrow. The radiology place could not squeeze me in today or would have gone sooner just to get it done. Will report back post-US tomorrow.

I don’t smoke and am not on hormonal birth control as an FYI (someone posted that) but do have a desk job where I sit for a couple hours at a time.

Will report back again.

Many people discover they have inherited or genetic disorders after a clot eg Factor 5 Leiden, May Turner or APS.
