Colleges with low endowment/student

This is assuming you make decisions solely off of things like this, which you shouldn’t. But since you asked.

And this may be in question if the GOP plan to cut Medicaid goes through - pushing coverage of this support to the states. States may likely pull ack on higher ed spending. Coupled with possible lower international student demand, cutting of grant funding, etc publics may see increasing financial pressures as well.

Just stop. They’re state supported which makes a big difference.

Grow up, it's a very useful question.

It did but does is now? State support is going to be in peril based on Republican budget proposals and the mischief that they are causing with Grant money. If you are in NY you are probably safe because nobody is going to mess with Stoney Brook or Buffalo because they need those republican reps on board and they would lose if the funding gets cut to those schools. Certain other places, not so much. PA already has school funding issues for example.

And what happens if a highly competitive school isn't a good fit for a child? I truly don't understand a blanket statement about what a family does.

There’s just so many “maybes” in this right now, with the eventual effects on colleges uncertain. The college endowment tax is a bigger direct threat at the moment.

This is so true! It is disheartening that people can't be happy for others. Every year during the months of April and May hateful and jealous individuals come on here to degrade schools that their children were rejected from. The level of bitterness is out of control here.

Eh. Never concerned nor considered. Both kids at OOS publics.

It will vary school by school. But there's no doubt that schools with $700,000+ per student endowments offer more opportunities to a student. But that's not a rule. A lot of the good STEM schools are publics with a much lower ratio. If the kid is pursuing a degree in STEM at Georgia Tech or UIUC or Berkeley, I wouldn't pay too much attention. But for everything else, yes, absolutely endowment per student makes a big difference. And I wouldn't go anywhere near a school that's teetering.

College counselor said big public’s would suffer the most for reasons mentioned above plus they rely on foreign T.A.s. Endowments are being taxed. Best bet is a non research religious institution like a BC or HC, etc.

Their endowments are not the ones that would get hit with the tax, though.

Pretty sure UVA's and Michigan's would.

For a flagship, yes. For a private college, no.

I thought the tax was going to be for total of 10b or more?
