BSC girls u12 soccer teams

A 6-out-of-7 decline rate for Pre-ECNL offers is certainly striking—especially considering how competitive and sought-after those spots typically are at BSC. When that many players turn down a top-tier opportunity, it often signals concerns that go beyond simple team placement.

It’s telling that the club is now scrambling to fill those open slots.

Pre-ecnl at Bethesda is a third team. Why would that be concerning. The coach isn’t good. Go where you can be developed

these naming conventions suck. Obviously clubs are trying to hide the true levels of the teams, but everyone who cares knows so why not just say A/B/C/D (and yes I know the answer is $$$, but these clubs need to do better)

Not a huge BSC fan, but in fairness they are fairly transparent on the girls side regarding their U9 and up naming convention. Through U12, it is E1, E2, Pre-ECNL, Blue, and White (if they have enough to fill a fifth team). Around U12, they seem to consolidate with four teams. In U13 and up, they go to ECNL, ECNL RL, and then either keep a Pre-E and Blue or just a Blue.

I think it was 6 or 7 declined out of 12 or 13 offers. Still not good, but my understanding is it has to do with a combo of the coach and existing BSC players not knowing where they stood/not expecting third team offers.

My goodness it is dramatic for you parents of 5th graders in moco!

Coach of e2 team nice enough but not always present (parents with coaching experience often had to step in to coach when she couldn’t be there). Coach of pre e team was nice, but was new. Coach of blue and white team, a failure to launch. Then come tryouts and other than the girls on the e1 team no one really knew where they stood. It took them forever to announce the coaching slate for next year and when they did, the list was lackluster at best. The coach of e1 and e2 teams, has a winning record but apparently he accomplishes that by creating a negative competitive spirit. The coach of the Pre E team, I don’t know of anyone with anything positive to say about him. Coach of the 4th team seems nice enough but the word is he always gets stuck with the bottom team and they expect him to work a miracle with them.

The end result - offers came out, and those who got Pre E offers went in search of something betterf.

Just looked up the records for the Pre-Ecnl coach of the 2014 for next year, he has 2 teams currently, U13 RL (2012) is in 5th place (respectable) and U12 E2 2013 is in 1st place in 11v11 EDP league (playing up I guess). I heard that a good part of his current 2012 players are leaving bc he's not coaching them next year. IMO, as a coach, he's gonna be better than the 2014 E1 /E2, those girls are gonna be in for a surprise.

I was told the last ECNL 2 or RL team he had the parents all refused to return if he was going to be the coach. I also heard he was a jerk to the players and turned the girls against each other. Just nothing something I was willing to risk. We will likely accept an offer with Potomac or MSI. Smaller clubs but hopefully less internal drama.

define a Pre ECNL offer, because last I was told (which was yesterday) NONE of the 1st group declined.

The Pre ECNL team (coach AS) - third team.

You are correct, as far as I know no one declined a e1 offer. However, a current e1 player didn’t bother trying out because of Bethesda dynamics they encountered. At least one, maybe two declined e2 offers and 6/7 declined Pre ECNL offers. Seems like the real rub is with the coach of Pre ENCL.

I don't think that is the case with the Pre E. Kids who make 3rd team just don't want to play on a "third" team, when the can go play 2nd or 1st at another club. That's mainly why they decline.

That’s not accurate at all. Many, if not all, of those girls had offers for other teams before they knew they were being offered a Pre E spot. No one was excited about the coaching slate because KL and AS reputation proceeds them.

You heard wrong. Many of the 2012 players refused to stay if he was going to coach them again. LOL. Yeah he has a “winning” record but what he did with that team was horrible. He had 24-26 girls on the roster, when only 18 could suit up. From game to game some of these girls were being told they couldn’t even suit up for their game. Mid season he wanted to push some of them off his team and down to the Blue team. The coach of the Blue team would only accept two, and one who came had the stinkiest attitude about it. The ones who are leaving, are leaving because they were offered spots on the Blue team for next year, not because they are mad AS isn’t coaching them. There is a reason AS lost his top teams, and it’s not because they want to see what he can do with an upcoming Pre E team. LOL. It’s because he’s bad for business. No idea why BSC didn’t just get rid of him altogether. MM would have been a better choice for Pre E (and all of those declines would have likely not occurred).

At least 3, maybe 4 of the girls are currently on the Pre E team without issue. At least two of those families are definitely not team status clout chasers. They just want their girls on teams where they can develop, play, have fun, and enjoy soccer. What they don’t want is a toxic environment. Given the rumors about the coach for the pre e team there were real concerns. Parents had many discussions amongst themselves about it. Many made plans in advance and had their girls attend practices with other clubs and attend other club tryouts, well before BSC tryouts, in anticipation of the inevitable. Some of those families had no reason to believe their daughter might even get an offer for a higher team, and even then there were still concerns about the coach for the e1 and e2 team. Those in the know of specific incidents weren’t willing to risk their girls mental and emotional well being, regardless of his reputation of winning at all costs. What’s happening at BSC with this group has very little to do with parents wanting a top team, and everything to do with coach reputation and past behavior.

The sad part is nothing is going to change. This scramble to find players isn’t going to change the way BSC does business. Their model is built on winning at all cost, so parents just need to “BUYER BEWARE” when accepting a $3000 contract for their kid to play for BSC.

Does BSC send out notifications to players/parents they don't offer a spot on a team to (new or returning players)? Or do they just let people twist in the wind? With all the chatter here about offer declines, I'm sure there's some chaos.

Like every club, they twist in the wind. Most clubs won't tell you that you are not being offered a spot. Just look at all the people asking about offers being out. They didn't get an offer or notice of no offer.

My daughter previously had Coach MM (blue). He is a good coach and he puts in effort to develop the players. BSC 3rd and 4th teams are more competitive than MSI travel. Declined offers are likely a reaction to coaching staff for the higher team.

My daughter is currently on the 2014 white team, and we haven't heard anything. We have been told they will not even begin to make offers for the blue team to any current players until this mess with the Pre ECNL team is resolved. I have no idea if my daughter is going to get an offer, get officially cut, or get nothing. I don't know if to be sad or relieved. We don't have an offer anywhere else. This was our first year with Bethesda and I'm just really disappointed all around. I had no idea it would be this messy and disorganized.
