Waitlist Movement

I feel your pain. We were in a similar situation last year, but since it was right after the October count date, a lot of schools were conveniently full, even the ones I knew has open slots. So we were stuck until June. It never hurts to call around though.

OP again. We switched from a very good DCPS to an outstanding charter. My son and I couldn't be happier with the switch and this is only day 2.

To the PP who said her child was unhappy, please call around. I called for waitlist updates this week and within 24 hours, our # 1 choice called back saying someone was moving to the burbs.

"What if a kid at a JKLMMO school moved out in October? Would they pull a child from the waitlist?"

Doubtful for pre-k or k - they are just too oversubscribed these days.

if you want to move, best shot is before the October count. Really, get on the phone today. Especially for charters, each body in the building for the October count is ~$10k.

I am so sorry to hear this. Which school is making your son so unhappy? Anything you can do to help him/the school while he is there?

Kindergarten. A friend of ours was offer a pre-k4 slot a couple weeks ago. They also declined since they are happy where they are.

I believe Two Rivers does have at least 1 pre-k slot... at least they did last week.

I just got a call from a DCPS school very close to my house that I would have taken immediately in early Sept. I would have to pull DC out by 2nd or 3rd grade though. DC is at a great charter now with good longer term prospects, but the commute is horrible.

I should hope not. I think they are going down their waitlists now, very quickly. So, maybe someone that gets on now could get in. We were 78 at one school and got a call in very early Sept, which we declined. Got a call last week from another school where we were in the high 40's. I'll let you know if the school where we were number 98 ever calls!

What schools are you comparing?
