ArlDems support voter suppression

Arlington Democrats should not be endorsing for school boards.

But these are non partisan positions. It’s not even a real primary. It’s a bit for a partisan endorsement on non-partisan roles.

More people attend Wakefield HS than voted for our next school board member. She won by a margin fewer than attendance at Abingdon Elementary.

Less than 2K total votes to determine who oversees a system of 27K.

Yup, totally democratic!

I saw that, too, that less than 2K people voted and it's totally ridiculous. I am not interested in running and it's a terrible job, but it's hard to think that so few people care. Many people have 1K FB friends! You can't get that many to vote for you? Weird.

A lot of people are disillusioned with the process, the county Dems should not be involved at all. The pledge is stupid. I voted because I had a preferred candidate and don’t care about violating their pledge. Maybe some people take that kind of stuff more seriously than I do.

I am an Independent but voted in one Dem primary. For Hillary. I have been getting spammed by them ever since.
Arlington is a corrupt place with pols and overbearing staff.

This system was set up to prevent Republicans from winning seats. The last Republican to serve on the school board was about 15 years ago. So the primary system has worked out as intended.

Yup. When there was a meeting about possibly ending the caucus, people said things like “but then people might vote for a republican” and “but then people might not elect the right candidate.” Very democratic indeed.

Its a ridiculous process- why didn't they time it with the June election primary? I talked to so many moms last night that had no idea about the deadline. They thought they were supposed to vote at the primary.

They don’t want you to vote. They only want the ArlDems faithful to show up so they can get their preferred candidate.

There is no acceptable republican in 2025 so…

How so? Rs can run in the general election.

I very much object to the entire process of selecting candidates in Arlington, both for County Board and School Board. It's total BS. What can be done about it?

Anonymous wrote:Arl Dems have always run primaries this way. Basically discouraging participation. The insiders vote in the primary and there is almost never a challenger so the primary winners run Arlington. It’s appalling. I am a democrat but in Arlington elections I vote for whoever is NOT associated with Arlington Dems. It’s a cabal of semi competent washed up hippies and former high school student council members who blindly follow whatever the progressive trend du jour is.

Beautifully written.
