| Rockville |
I call it “past White Flint where toys r us was.” |
| I live in 20852 and call it North Bethesda because Rockville has defined borders. Actually my neighborhood is cut in half by the Rockville limits. Apparently when I had something serviced recently, repairman had to verify that my house was not Rockville because there were different codes for the permit in Rockville, |

Rockville City had its own taxes, public works dept, and Police Dept.
There are a few streets that half the street would get moco police if they called 911 and the other half gets Rockville city police. |
Np, and I used to think this way too. I loathe pretense, and the NB thing used to really get under my skin about 10 years ago. |
Now that I think about it, this might be the reason I finally let the aggravation go. |
Haha same |
Honestly this is the point — there is a space between Rockville and Bethesda |
| I call it north Bethesda there’s enough difference from regular Rockville for me to think of them of different places. |
Yeah it’s called “past white flint.” It’s where you go for obscure businesses that might be part warehouse. Like do you need a hot tub? They probably sell them out there. That one store that is the only place you can buy fireplaces and patio furniture for some reason? It’s out there past white flint! Fabric, obviously. And the only Arby’s, should you require one for some reason. |

I have lived in MoCo since 1995. North Bethesda was a term then only used by people who were under age 35 and lived in that area (a small group). Then, the redevelopment occurred and the developers grabbed onto the term to try to bring cache to the area. North Bethesda is not the same as the names of other unincorporated areas of the county like Bethesda or Silver Spring. But, times change and now a large crop of people have normalized the term North Bethesda.
Now for the spin off - North Potomac or Germantown … |
Maybe it should be called SoRo (south rockville)
|
| I personally think Rockville has more to offer than Bethesda these days, so North Bethesda is not a vanity title to me. I call it rockville but if someone is asking more specifically, then saying “north Bethesda” is a real and accurate explanation and I don’t have any problem with it. I don’t know why people get so worked up about this stuff, but I suspect it’s the same people who get mad about vanity sizing in pants |
That Arby’s has closed, RIP. And just as they brought back potato cakes! |
| I live in the city of Rockville and when the Twinbrook Quarter was up for public comment, a lot of people from Bethesda and Morth Bethesda were upset that the city of Rockville had the ability to allow several huge apartment buildings in their school zone. They all said no, don’t build. All the residents of their city of Rockville that can actually vote in city elections said yes please build it. It got approved because north Bethesda isn’t Rockville and the people living there DGAF about it he health of the city. North Bethesda is not my Rockville. |
