Uncanny after braces?

It means something's off but you can't quite put your finger on it. Like how a humanoid robot's movements and expressions aren't quite natural, but it's difficult to articulate exactly how.

Uncanny seems like the right word for a kid with new braces. They move their mouths in unnatural ways until they get used to the braces.

I still have no idea what you’re talking about.

IQ problem.

Some like a certain look. I had one that kind of liked that overbite look. Where the upper teeth kind of fan outward, if that makes sense.

like the teeth are TOO perfect?

It's like there are too many teeth showing. It's hard to explain. Simply look at before and after pictures of kids and you'll notice it. The smiles look unnatural.

This is a good example.

I’m not the same as those people, but I also am having a hard time envisioning what is a good example of post braces from years ago. She says that it’s a newer problem so what is a good example of good results?

Jost has big weird teeth, but I just assumed it was his smile not a braces issue

No, there’s definitely at least two people who don’t understand what you’re talking about. I’m one of them.

The only stupid person is she who started this thread.

No, I don’t think you really understand the word. There can be an uncanny resemblance. And uncanny coincidence. But an uncanny smile post-braces? Sorry, it doesn’t make sense.

NP and I am also confused.

Colin Jost's smile looks normal to me. He doesn't have veneers like a lot of Hollywood people so his teeth look straight but not fake. It's not the best smile in the world, but it's fine.

My kid is 7 and will need braces so I'm really trying to figure out what you mean. I had braces but got them off early so my incisors are still a little turned in but I actually like how it looks because it's symmetrical but keeps my teeth from looking too uniform.

Use your google powers. This is literally the result: "strange or mysterious, especially in an unsettling way."

Also, "uncanny valley": "The "uncanny valley" is a psychological phenomenon where something that is almost, but not quite, human, triggers a sense of unease or revulsion in humans."

Please people, stop dragging your everyday stupid into a public space like DCUM. Uncanny is a great word for this. Props to OP.

Here is a bunch of people's before and afters with braces. None of them look uncanny to me -- they almost universally look better, or they look the same just with straighter teeth. With a lot of the kids you can tell they underwent puberty changes during their braces so some of them have more dramatic changes in appearance, but I think a lot of it has nothing to do with the braces themselves. It's normal for a a kid's face to mature a lot between age 10 and age 16.
