Trump cost conservatives elections in both Canada and Australia

To me (Canadian) it also shows how ill prepared Polievre was. HE thought he had it. He ended up with 90 other people running in his riding, most as Independent.

People keep saying Republicans should have nominated Nikki Haley.
This is essentially what Canada's conservatives did, and the weaker CanadianHaley couldn't manage.

It’s a rejection of extremism more than conservatism. Taking a look at international politics reminds us that what we are experiencing isn’t normal.

It’s also because the conservative politicians started borrowing from Trump’s playbook and suddenly found themselves wrong footed and backpedaling when he attacked their countries.

Agree. American voters went bat poop crazy and decided electing 80 year presidents was a good idea in the past two elections. We can only hope they have learned their lesson by now.

Trudeau resigning played into it. Pierre Polievre couldn't adjust his approach away from "I'm not Trudeau".

Trump certainly helped, but there was more to it. At one point polls had the Liberals winning by a large margin. That didn't happen.

I love the right-wing spin.

This is a humiliation for Trump. Two countries voted for liberal candidates because the countries' citizens hate Trump.

This is a win for freedom and democracy worldwide.

The GOP leaders up for reelection during the midterms are sweating. They let the stories about the town halls being packed full of "paid liberal protestors" take the headlines, but they and their staff know the truth that those town halls are packed with THEIR constituents, most of whom voted for them, who are pissed at them.

As my angry Republican uncle said regarding Trump's first 100 days: He hasn't done a damn thing. We have all the power and he's not done or passed a damn thing.
