NVSL: Any teams noticing drops in registrations?

Parent of older kids. We did a summer nanny for years specifically so our kids could swim on the swim team. It was actually cheaper than the weeks of summer camps they fought me in going to.

Div 2 here. Ours seem to be steady. I'm actually shocked

So far there has been a significant drop in the number of swimmers being registered. Wondering if other teams are seeing the same thing and maybe RTO is impacting numbers? thanks!

Is this across the board? or is it concentrated in 10&U?

Our largest increase in kids has been with our 10&U. We have had an explosion this year of new little ones to the team. Some of it is new families moving in (closer to the city) and some of it is our team reps actively recruiting and talking families into joining and making things easier on them.

I don’t know how our registrations are yet, but I have always thought our pool was not very accommodating for working parents (and I stay home). I try to help other families as much as I can, but feel like this summer is going to be really hard for a lot of families.

Practice schedules are “the way they always have been” rather than trying to allow for 10&u to get to summer camp by 9. Not to mention the crazy expectations for Monday and Wednesday afternoon meets.

I don’t know what the solution is, but maybe this is the year more teams will figure it out?

This is why our pool offers an early morning camper practice and an evening practice. They aren’t as fun as the traditional practice times because you lose some of the post practice activities or just natural social hangouts that occur post practice but at least kids are not precluded from being on the team.

Our swim team enrollment is about 50 less swimmers than last year. We’ve seen pool many families not renewing their membership across all age groups. Job uncertainty is coming into play. Many families are tightening up their spending in anticipation of job loss.

We did offer to cover registration for any families laid off. No one took the offer.

As for RTO. About a month ago they sent out a list sitters and drivers that could help and the practice schedule allows parents to take kids before work. Our team has never had SAHMs. We have some teachers which is about as close as we get to SAHM.

Of course your team has SAHM's. They probably don't say so as you are judgemental. As a SAHM, I am not shagging a bunch of kids every day for free while you work and earn a big pay check.

Or, issues at the pool. We are changing pools this year as we are tired of the drama, one family controls the pool and team and the coach is very basic. And, they don't have enough coaches.

You sound fun.

We only have wo SAHM on our teams but they also have huge families (7 kids) so no one is asking them anything. But our pool is very much working and middle class.

Don’t let the door hit you . . Z.

Oh wow, that’s nice. My kids can still participate because my spouse and I still have flexible schedules. But I have empathy for kids who can’t anymore. You’re a jerk - I hope you’re stuck in B meet purgatory all summer.

Ah, the arrogant A meet parent!

Love the both of you.

This is our situation. We’re switching summer teams too. One queen bee controlled everything (yes, I volunteered tons but my thoughts/opinions were not considered). DS was not having any fun anymore, didn’t love the coach, and friends were quitting. Winter coach recruited for his summer team. Too bad for summer team, they could have really used DS this season.

Where are these pools that people can just join before the summer? Are there not several years long waitlists?

I don’t know about others, but we are at a club in Springfield that doesn’t have a waitlist.

Well I surely hope not.
