NVSL: Any teams noticing drops in registrations?

Anonymous
Out NVSL team is in the middle of its registration period.

So far there has been a significant drop in the number of swimmers being registered. Wondering if other teams are seeing the same thing and maybe RTO is impacting numbers? thanks!

Possibly, but also because many families are cutting $3k+ annual expenses if their kid(s) are not top swimmers.

When do your practices start? We just opened registration a few days ago and with practices not starting until after memorial day folks are never in a rush.

Our registrations are down by about half compared to where we usually are at this point.

I'm also wondering about club memberships in general.

OP here. We start Memorial Day weekend. Suits are included in our fees and our suit order goes in this week.

Lots of people I know have lost their federal jobs, OP. And the cuts to HHS, intelligence agencies and others are only just beginning.

You might want to review your policy for leaving mid-year and pro-rating a refund.

I think it’s mostly due to RTO. It was always a kids of SAHM thing and sadly will be again. It was nice when it was more inclusive for a while?

Don’t let the door hit you . . Z.

Does your pool have a waitlist?

Our pool has a waitlist and even though we didn't offer a lot of new memberships our team registrations (which are now closed) are up. We increased the size of the team. We are in the top third of hr league. So not D1.

We did offer to cover registration for any families laid off. No one took the offer.

As for RTO. About a month ago they sent out a list sitters and drivers that could help and the practice schedule allows parents to take kids before work. Our team has never had SAHMs. We have some teachers which is about as close as we get to SAHM.

No, but we haven’t had one in probably at least the last 25 years. Club membership has been steady and has crept just slightly higher the past few years (especially ‘22 and ‘23), but it was tough to get new members last year. This year looks to be the same so far.

Seeing this at our pool as well. But it’s May 3rd. The first Saturday meet is 6 weeks away. I’m sure people will register.

?
We pay <$850 for annual club dues and two swimmers on swim team. I can’t think of any other required costs.

Oh wow, that’s nice. My kids can still participate because my spouse and I still have flexible schedules. But I have empathy for kids who can’t anymore. You’re a jerk - I hope you’re stuck in B meet purgatory all summer.
