$2500 rent budget where to rent for good schools

It’s a great elementary school and more affordable overall so you might be able to get a house. There are also townhouses and small houses in Rockshire that feed into Fallsmead and Lakewoood. We also heard nice things over the years about Jones Lane and there is more of a range of price points there.

You picked the other 3 hardest to afford areas besides bethesda and potomac

No one wants to say this but you have a low budget, title 1 is what you will see a lot of.

When are you moving? There's a huge development going up next to the 7/11 on route 28 in Gaithersburg. It's not far from.hughway and metro access. I'm guessing it's going to feed into the new crowne hs

Probably August September at the latest.

Honestly crown hs will be nice but the existing schools suck so I don’t think op would like it.

There's a nice apartment complex near the safeway on Sangamore Road in Bethesda. That'll put you in the Wood Acres/Pyle/Whitman district. I also see a ton of kids getting on school buses in Friendship Heights. Lots of apartments there. I think that zones for the BCC cluster.

You can frequently get condos / apartments for $2,000 near Strathmore Metro. Zoned for good schools, safe, and a 22-25 minute Metro ride to Metro Center or Gallery Place if you want to use the Metro instead of driving. Near a lot of nice parks as well.

+1 I would focus on Rockville Pike between Parkside (garden condos in 20814 near Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro) and Twinbrook (neighborhood just east of the Pike in Rockville) for good access to both DC for work and your mom in Clarksburg as well as lots of affordable apartment buildings, condo complexes, townhouses and even small houses were going for $2500 not too long ago. Walter Johnson and Richard Montgomery clusters.

Instead of making yourself miserable as the poorest person in a wealthy district, why not rent someplace that is convenient for you/your mom? If you need to move for MS, you can, but honestly there are tons of good schools outside of Bethesda/Potomac.

What are some areas I should be looking in? I haven’t lived in this area in 15 years and that was in dc proper so understandably I’m not really caught up.

What else is important to you? Metro access? Commute? Ability of your mom to access senior services? Nearby faith community? Anything else that would improve your quality of life?

I have a car so no metro, hour max to dc is with traffic. My mom has a health aid and I would be coming over daily after work so no need for senior services, she lives in clarksburg though since it’s after work distance doesn’t matter honestly as long as it’s an hour to dc and maybe doesn’t have high crime rates I’m good.

You need to run some commute times through Google Maps at rush hour. DC to Clarksburg could be well over an hour in evening traffic depending on where in DC you are coming from. I’m in Kensington going just barely over the line into DC and it’s 40 minutes most days now.

Are you talking that that one on Holly Hill that is a one bedroom. for $2,500 on a block surrounded by two to four million dollar homes. You want to make it multigenerational and bring an aid in?. You, Mom, Daughter and Aid? In a one bedroom? Plus that is a furnished unit. You cant bring stuff other than sheets and clothes. And not sure it is legal you could get kicked out.

Rent a real apartment in a real building with a lease. Not a place like this. Too risky

OP doesn’t need her mom to live with her.

Have you thought about Dunn Loring? There are apartments on Gallows Road that might work and the schools are excellent. The high rises in Tysons could also possibly work, but I’m not sure about pricing.

You can’t live in this with all three of you!

No one want to drive from N. Va. daily to Clarksburg (location is up 270).

OP, look at some good suggestions here that have easy access to 270 for your daily trips.

Right now for example, it's running 42 minutes to drive from the 5712 Chapman Mill Dr APT 320, Rockville, MD 20852 location.
