Are box window valances over drapes out of style?

I think you'd have to do them exactly just so, wit the right fabric, construction and lines, to not be dated. Even then, it's a very formal, fabric heavy look that will have demands to the rest of the room.

Yes sadly dated. The bottom photo would be more dated due to the red trim and the fussiness of the curved lines.

I think they look very formal, which is not my style. So yes, to me, they look dated and formal. I prefer a more contemporary/transitional look.

Op here, thanks for this point and your are right. This room is small and the bed is a King. So it would be too much!
