I now see I was referring to cornice, like this. Although I would like to know whether either one (valance or cornice) are still in style.

| I think it’s a clean look. I see them quite a bit in very nice, well-designed coastal homes… frequently owned by older folks, but that’s the demographic here. |
| What’s the style of the home? I think they’re making a comeback but wouldn’t put it in a farmhouse. |

I like them

‘My house is Just a traditional colonial. Would be for guest bedroom. I was leaning towards a pattern drape which I am not sure would work with a cornice or valance. It may be too much. But I have a valance in my room. Been here since we bought the house 20 years ago!
Any other tips on what to do or not do if I go down this path? Thanks! |
Yeah. Doilies on tables and plastic coverings for your sofas. |
| No. Saw them in a designer's very high end traditonal to modern home. In one room it was paired with a roman shade and drapes in another room. It's all about the color and fabric. |
| Very dated |
| With a patterned fabric, I would do panels only. The box valance takes up a lot of visual space, especially if there are multiple windows. |
| It really depends on the rest of the decor and the choice of fabric but I would say it would be very hard to pull off with any kind of floral, but maybe a geometric pattern could work. |

They're a classic item that can look dated due to the fabric used.
