+100 My DCs would probably be happy with Robucks (or whatever Roblox bucks are called)

Yes, OP and I also have terrible memories of my best friend’s parents dying seemingly out of nowhere, my FIL with dementia getting covid in memory care and stopping eating and none of us being allowed to go in, and on and on. But this thread isn’t about “what’s the worst thing that happened to you during the pandemic.” It’s about something now that I can control. Moreover, it is allowed and ok and perhaps shows complexity of thought and emotion that I can remember family tragedies at the same time and moment that I can have terrible memories of a child’s birthday disappointment. Do you never have more than one thought and feeling at a time?! Are your memories and feelings the only right way to exist? I bought LOL dolls, for what it’s worth. They are small and plastic-y and definitely not made in the USA and I think that they’ll go perfectly with whatever else DD is into in 7 months. |

Yeah, that was absurdly melodramatic. |

Toy shortage would be tremendous for this country.
Get kids outside, learning how to make their own play for once. Expensive toy does not always = more fun. |
|
Great. Sure most kids have enough toys. Buy books Go outside Play board games |
| This might be the one good thing about this terrible economy. My kid reads the news and understands his toys are part of the global supply chain, so he seeing blame me for minimal toys under the tree |
| Am I the only one thinking this might bring overconsumption down in America? I mean, it will depress the economy, true, but this obsession with goods from China needs to stop, right? |
OP's main example was a scooter for playing outside, dingo. |
| Hula hoop |
Right? One of my favorite memories of covid time is a holiday thing I improvise that we still use 5 years later! |

If it happens, and then kids play outside more or play inside creatively with non-electronic toys, then great.
If the result instead is more electronic game playing and more screen time, then not so great. |
Toy shortages are not going to push kids into playing outside more. Parents need to step in and change the screen time culture in their homes and neighborhoods. |
American kids have so many toys and their rooms are a constant mess. It would be good if they got less toys. |
