I thought UVA got a bunch of national team players from Union coming in this year?

What is with the union bashing? Not the right topic.

1 Union YNT player. 2 others that aren’t YNT.

The new game is not taking hs players. It also requires paying players and uva isn’t doing that. The other schools are showing the money to girls soccer. Next year ncaa will be a professional league for some schools and paying salaries.

What schools are actually paying money to the girls...I've heard of a few small NIL deals here and there, but nothing about direct pay.

Didn't Moira get a short term contract from Thorns?

And they lost Ainsley McCammon who would have been part of 2025 class. She went pro already.

Right now, the for the top top players will mostly be schools w $$$ or going the pro route early (before finishing college).

There are entirely new business models being formed and we don't yet know how it will shake out. NIL is still new. Schools and teams will experiment and find what works. Here's an example of individual players seeking out their own NIL deals https://opendorse.com/ncaa?sports=Soccer. Athletes can profit by doing product endorsements, local appearances, social media posts. Another example is players selling customized team gear to raise money for themselves and the team https://msu.nil.store/collections/womens-soccer. All of this is now possible because of NIL. Teams will need to adapt to the new NCAA revenue sharing rules, roster caps, and NIL is a new tool to use. Maybe a local business like a car dealership would want to sponsor the Michigan State soccer team in return for getting their name on the back of the jerseys and athletes making appearances at the summer sale-a-thon. College sports teams will operate more like professional teams now. It might not be a good thing but it is here to stay.

A few of UVAs top talented players have been plagued by injuries and might have finished school/gone pro if they had otherwise been healthy. I'm thinking Lia Godfrey, Laney Rouse...

Looks like they will be part of the roster for next year. Promising 2025 class at least.

I rather my DD get an education then get paid 30-60k and also need a side job to make ends meet. And for a career maybe of 10 yrs? Come on folks no one wants to watch women’s pro soccer.

Hmm, my daughter follows women's pro soccer in US, England and Spain.

There are alot of ways school funnel money to different sports and if one school is getting a lot of players, you better believe they are getting paid somehow

the top players going pro from college (top players… there aren’t many) can expect $90K - $120K rt now. players are still supplementing their salaries w other deals, but the days of going pro and needing other part time jobs to survive is over. still, only a handful of players are on this pathway. and it ends by their 30s (for those that last that long). gotta have a plan b.
