UVA WS continued slide

So this year... no pros out of UVA .... most of the other ACC programs had at least 5 go pro. Wake had 7, Stanford 3, UNC 7. The list guess on. How is this soccer.. not academic or cost... but soccer program still alive? No ACC tournament for years, clubbed in NCAA early rounds for years. No facilities (trailers). I get it.. take the money and run. But for top tier kids wanting the path to pro this isn't it. Oh... and no NIL.

Going pro through college? Top prospects go pro before they even graduate HS, you may have a hand full go pro after college. But that isn't the pathway.

How many years does Swanson have left?

So you’re saying there are more rookie NWSL players this year coming out of high school than players signed out of college?

There is no way.

It's completely made up. The rookie class free agent signings this year went to college. If you go back through the draft results, and I did through 2022, all but one player drafted attended college. The "notable undrafted players" who were signed by NWSL teams also were college players.

Hopefully not many. He has lost his cred!

Yes. Almost all pros went to college. Even the internationals attended college in the us.

BC UVA got too many union players.

I'd be happy if my daughter had the opportunity to attend UVA and then be able to play soccer there is an added bonus. If she was good enough to go pro, she should have plans for post soccer career. No one is retiring on playing soccer for $50-60K/year.

I have to agree with the people above who bring up the girls turning pro before going to college. Those are the ones who can hope to make a good living playing this game. The way things are going with women's soccer, in the next decade, we'll see more girls turning pro vs college, as that path dries up as the best way to play professionally.

It is only a tiny tiny fraction of rookies that don’t go to college at least for a year or two.

Yes, and how is it going for these high schoolers? Ricketts and the Spirit does not seem to be a great decision. Girls will get better opportunity in a few years, but just like every sport...these clubs have no idea if these young girls with turn out to be good pros

I thought UVA got a bunch of national team players from Union coming in this year?

Only talking about the 4 year/5 year players. UVA hasn't made the party to pro for those kids. No one cares about the 14 yr old skipping college.

Agreed. Although this is only supposed to be about soccer (not school).. if my kid really wanted to play pro and was really good enough... she would skip college for that pro offer. UVA is a great example of how those 4 years did not create a pro opportunity.
